the babies weight is normal i am 38 weeks and about 8 pounds usually a baby grows half a ounce every day from 37 weeks on. As far as her not being dilated yet this can change very quickly or be a long process Raspberry leaf tea help with softening the cervix which helps the process along tell her to talk to her ob and see if she can drink this. Another term you will here is about the babies head stationing which means its head is settling in her pelvis properly. Her cervix has to thin out to make room for everything that is about to take place. Dont worry unless the doctor is have fun and congrats on being a grand parent

Did you have to be induced with the others? If not chances are your fine. Your body will decide when it's time to serve the eviction notice. sonograms are an estimate of the weight and aren't always acurate. It may not be the most appealing thought of delivering a bigger baby but it's not impossible. My son was 10 1/2 lbs when I had him at 42 weeks. I was induced because they wouldn't let it go past 42 and it was pure misery. The epidural and petocin caused his heart rate to spike from the stress and duration and he had a fever as a result of it as well. So if you can go natural I'd do it that way.

Basically it means her body is starting to prepare for labor but it does not mean that she will go into labor early or anything. Not to worry too much about the weight either. My son was 8 lbs at this age and was only 8 pounds 6 oz when born.
Congratulations on almost being a grandma! How exciting!

I very highly recommend Evening Primrose Oil...Any nature supplement store will have them. They run about 12.00 a bottle. They are so awesome! They helped me dialate naturally and helped my cervix thin out I had my son on my due date but didnt start taking them until 37 weeks like your daughter. My midwife takes them with her pregnancies and she went naturally at 38 weeks with her last two babies. She didnt take them with her first two though and they both went over at 42 and 42 1/2 weeks! Thats an incredible difference if you ask me. If you can afford them I really think you should try them.....congrats..

Means she's probably got a while to go. At 38 weeks I would ask the dr to estimate the baby's weight again via ultrasound, and perform a c-section if necessary. As a person that gave birth to a 10 pound baby, I speak from experience.

That her body is getting ready for delivery. But it could still be a little while before she goes into labor.
(Although I was told my daughter weighed 7 lbs 6 oz. at 38 weeks. When she was born she was actually 6 lbs.4 oz. So they may be off a little about the weight.)

It means that its getting closer to time. The thinner the cervix's the closer to time she will get. When it is completely thinned out she will be ready to bring your wonderful grand child into this world. Love it has if there is no tommorrow.........

If her cervix hasn't thinned out yet, I'd go for a c-section.
