.......gift for a girl's 18th Birthday under $120.00?

We aren't really close...she's my husband’s niece and we never see her...so I'm not sure what she'd like....

Do you think $120.00 is enough for a good gift? I don't want to be cheep but I don't want to go overboard either...

We thought about giving her money for college but she's got another year of high school and plan to give her a check when she graduates....

I'd like to give her a gift that says that we actually put some thought into it... a Gift Card is a good idea but at this point it is our last resort....

thanks...

How about asking her what she'd like for her b-day? Ask her mom & dad for ideas too. Just tell her you don't know her very well and want to get her a gift she'll enjoy. Maybe this will be the start of a closer relationship.

I would do a seriously happy dance if someone spent that much on me- that isn't "cheap" by any means and she's a little prig if she thinks it is.

Honestly...I don't know an 18 year old girl that cannot use $120...so i believe cash is fine. You can also get her a series of gift cards at a mall...or a visa gift card...the idea is a shopping spree.

Miss manners says....cash is appropriate for a gift if the receiver is younger than the giver.

Gift cards always work the best. Or if she is like my daughter(whose birthday was sunday) she told everyone to give her cash. She said she is a POOR college student.

If she is on her way to college soon, that opens up a whole area of dorm stuff, cool book bag, etc.
If not, find out what her plans are after graduation and go with that.
Or how about a spa day?
Or a professional make-over?

I have the perfect gift for you to get her. Rent her a hummer and let her take her friends out riding around. W e rented our niece a limo with a driver and they had a blast. B ut after talking to her she said it would have been even better if the driver wasnt there.

Gift cert. for the local mall. Or gas cards are good too. I think you can get cash cards through banks now that can be used any where.

You can buy her a Nintendo DS or a Gamecube. (Both $99.99) Even though the Gamecube system might die out soon, because of the new Wii system their coming out with, but it will be worth it because their coming out with a last great installment for it in November - Legend of Zelda, The Twilight Princess.
