due to the new '21' campaign, anyone who looks under 21 will be id'd, but the majority of places that sell alcohol will ask everyone for id due to the stringent licensing laws. Most places only accept photo driving license or valid passport. Birth certificates will not be accepted as there is no photo and you could be using anyones BC.

Why can't you wait until you're 21? I thought that was the legal age to buy and consume alcohol. Drinking is not a big deal when you're finally old enough to drink. It's all hype when you're not of age, and it's more tempting and desirable to get some booze when it's restricted from you. Your parents should let you drink a little alcohol ever so often to teach you that drinking alcohol should always be done in moderation and not made a habitual binging session (like some of your immature friends might think). It's not cool at all to get sloppy drunk. That's when car accidents, date-rape, and other irreversible life-changing mistakes happen. Go to the same place where people get their driver's license (DMV or DPS) and apply for a state ID card. This will be valid proof of your age. In the meantime, chill with your folks at home and enjoy ONE alcoholic beverage in front of them during family gatherings, holidays, and dining out - if that's cool with them. If they don't agree, don't be one of those knuckle-head teens that get sloppy-drunk and make an a** of themselves. Be responsible and take the keys away from any of your friends who are drunk and getting behind the wheel. Call for a ride (taxi, parents, neighbor, friend.) The whole point of drinking is not to feel a buzz; it's to relax and enjoy the flavor of your drink when there's company!

I'm a bouncer so I offend people left right and center when it comes to ID checks. It'll make your life easier if you just get your driving licence and passport or one of those prove it cards to use as ID. There are no other options because not many place will accept anything else. I'm 26 and I got ID in Sainsbury's lol, so don't let it get to you, just sort out some proper ID.

I wasn't carded until after I turned the legal drinking age. One time a bartender wanted to see my ID and another bartender said that I was OK (legal age). The first bartender said, "She doesn't look a day over 16". I was 21. Another time I was going into a club with some friends (I was the oldest) and I was the only one the bouncer IDed. My friends started laughing and said "Show him your card". I was 32 at the time. Believe me, I enjoyed that.
But for you, get a state ID because it has your photo and all the stats that are necessary.

i wouldn't sell you alcohol either...if the legal drinking age is 21 where you live, get used to it. as a server, if i get caught giving alchol to a minor, i get fined $500 bucks and lose my job. you are not worth that to anyone you don't know. i had my older sister buy it for me before i was old enough. not suggesting that it's a good idea, but if you look 16, do you seriously expect someone to sell it to you?

if you are old enough where you live, just get an ID made. doesn't have to be a driver's license...

Most states have an ID card that is an alternative to the drivers license

Stop being irresponsible. Anyone over 18 should always have an ID with them. If you want to stop being turned down for movie tickets, just get a state ID.

My friend was asked in John Lewis London if she was over 16 when buying a grapefruit knife (come on, hardly weapon-like and even the shop stocks it in the gadget section with measuring cups).

She is 32. She said yes, and proceeded to pay with her platinum credit card. The assistant squinted and say, "are you SURE you are over 16?"

You can buy an ID card for £9.00 it will come in three weeks or for £24.00 you can get it in 48 hours, you can pick up the form at any pay-point and I think you may be able to get the information on-line, hope that's ok?

If you don't look 18 then expect to be IDed- and plan accordingly. Take ID with you if you want to buy alcohol, or don't buy alcohol, it's as simple as that.
