many reasons, job changes etc. led us to be without insurace. We now want it and are both 58. We are confused by all of the different programs. Since we are "never" sick it is especially confusing. Since we work free lance and for ourselves in media, we are our only major source of income so some of the premiums we've seen seem insane. We do want good coverage though so would really love advice and shared experiences. Want good Rx coverage, pick own physicians etc, not ridiculous monthly pay....help please

i had NASE several years ago. i had signed up and made the premius for over 5 years. in 1999 i had open heart surgery. their part of the bill was around $210K. six months after i got out of the hospital and the premium was up for review, they doubled my premium. six months after that it was doubled again. i had a lot of outpatient visits for rehab and follow up visits. at that time we had a rider for outpatient care that had a $250 yearly deductable and a $35 co pay. when my premium got to $1400 per month my wife called and request someone help her find a way to lower the payment. in a couple of days a rep called us back and told us be could lower our payment by changing our out patient rider to an ambulatory care rider. the anual deductable was $500 per year and the benefits were the same. when we got the new policy we found out that the $500 deductable was per proceedure. not very many out patient proceedures cost $500. it only covered the hospital not the doctor or the anesthesiologist.
eventually we had to cancel the policy. NASE is not the insurance company. they are the agent. the company they represented when i had the policy it was mega life and health. it could be something different now. your best bet is the AARP. as long as you are an S corp or a llc you can deduct part of the insurance as a benefit from your company. if you have enough employees you can qualify for a group policy with BCBShield.

The best solution for you is to shop online.

1) Go to http://www.2insure4less.com
2) Fill out an insurance quote request form
3) Get 5 quotes and compare insurance rates

Save when insurance companies compete for your business.

Insurance is a big thing, good reason to have at least one spouse working for a company. I worked for myself for most of my life, had no insurance. Now have Cancer, trying to fight, just happened to catch a time when I do have insurance, or I would be dead by now.
