I named him Little JJ. I was wondering how long does it take for a kitten to know what their names are?

I had him for three days. Do you think he knows his name already?

Depends on the cat but use his name every time you feed or comb him, play with him, etc. A good test is to watch his ears and tail wile you say random words as if you were conversing with someone. Throw his name into the conversation and he will twitch either or both. Cats sometimes come when they're called but not always, but they do know their names though. It will probably take a few weeks so be patient but use his name as much as you can.

Kittens and cats usually wont actually learn a name they just know your body language and the tone of voice when you call to them. That said cats will start coming when called all it takes is repetition and patients. Treats never hurt either, but only do it when she has come to the actual name that will help. PS kittens don't have a good attention span don't expect much quickly.

I don't know how long it takes, some cats are smarter than others. My cat (Cami is 12) has known her name for a long long time. If you say her name she will come or will look at you and give a soft little meow.

Cats never learn the names human call them, they simply deign to allow the human to house and feed them. Your cat will probably recognize the sound of the can opener long before she recognizes your voice.

some cats will never respond to a name. They are not like Dogs. They are extreamly independent.

Actually, he probably already knows his name. But he's a cat, and he'll be darned if he lets you know that! ;-)

Use his name while you're feeding him, and he'll start to answer to it more regularly.
