There are several things you can do:

Take it to the store where you bought it and ask them to prepare the dress for travel, they fill it up with paper and give it a shape so that it won't get wrinkled, plus they pack it in a bag.

Take it to a dry cleaners that has a bridal dresses packing system. They basically do the same as the one of the store in an air tight container.

Buy a first class ticket and bring the dress aboard the plane (like you would any other suit), ask the stewardess to place it where it won't get smashed by other suitcases. I did this and even though the dress got a bit wrinkled, I felt it was safe...lol...near me.

Pack the dress in a hard shell suitcase but try to fold it as little as possible, once you get to your destination (if you are staying at a Hotel) unpack it as soon as you get there and ask for a ironing service.

Hope some of this helps...
Good luck and Congrats!

Yes use a hard suitcase. However pack an extra white dress as a backup plan. Assume the aiport will LOSE or damage your dress! You cant take the chance of getting to another country and having no wedding dress to wear. Bring the receipt of how much the dress is worth WITH YOU to the airport. In case the airport damages or loses your dress, by showing proof of the price they may compensate you for the dress so you can buy another one.

My daughter did the same thing 3 years ago. If you book first class you have use of the closet on the plane and you can carry it on and they will hang it in the closet for you for the flight. Each airline is different and we actually found some airlines will work better with you than others. Call each airline and ask if it can be done. That way you don't have to worry about it getting lost with any luggage os anything. We ended up having to take 5 different planes during our trip to our destination and back and the airlines always made sure the wedding dress was not harmed or wrinkled in transit.

Good Luck.

dont take chances by putting it in the checked luggage, just imagine - you get off the plane and suitcase with dress doesn't follow for 3 weeks - bring it on as hand luggage. most airlines will understand and probably let you hang it up - but if they dont at least it wont get lost and then get it steamed straight away when you get there, the hotel you are staying in should be able to tell you where the best place is

I asked the airport (Delta Airlines) and they said that people put it in an air tight it in a non-plastic bag and either bring it on board (as they can place it in back of the plane upon notification or can lace it in a hard long box like structure or suit case to be loaded on the plane.

My step brother worked at our local airport and he said that it is best to not take personal items to be loaded under the plane. He recommends ANY items you will need, to take it on the plane with you. As luggage gets lost or delayed a flight or two. (as my step dad's luggage bag stayed in U.K for 3 days as he was home already in California).

You also don't want any thing damaged as he said sadly it happens often as they are not "easy handlers" with all that luggage all day. There is a chance, but I think it isn't too high as not many are traveling next week.

Don't worry. Relax. Take a steamer. We folded our dresses to get them to the church hung them up on the rack and then steamed them all out the day of the wedding. It was great. But be sure that you do it several hours before the wedding or the day before. But it in the hard shell case and just carry it on the plan with you. It should be okay.

It really depends on the material. I got married in Cyprus last year and I bought a dress made from different layers of organza. I knew it wouldn't crease as in the shop I took a hand full of it and scrunched it up to see how it fared.

I managed to squeeze it into a large holdall and took it on the plane as hand luggage.

On arrival the dress had very few creases and as we were there 5 days before the ceremony they all dropped out in no time.

Good Luck and congratulations!!!

A hard shelled suitcase is the best idea. I live in Canada and my sister recently got married in Hawaii. My best advice.... Bring a steamer. It will take a lot of pressure off of worrying about your dress!
