Baptism is an outward demonstration of an inward work. It represents "dying to sin" and being raised again to a new life is Jesus. You are being cleansed of your past sins by your profession of faith in Jesus. Baptism is the first sign of obedience to Jesus' commands Mt 28:19. It is the fist sign of repentance.

baptism means having your sins washed away. in romans, it says that being fully immersed is burying the old man in his sins and raising him up in a new life with Christ, without sins. to be baptized, you have to hear the word, believe the word, repent of your sins, and confess them. then you have to be fully immersed, and your sins are forgiven. from sycamorechurch.com

Baptism, to me, is a promise and a commitment to following the Lord and doing as He would do. (such as: being kind to others, helping the sick, and so on). To me, it is a serious decision to make. Baptism is a choice but it is also necessary for salvation. (If the Savior was baptized, then people need to be baptized too).

edit: I forgot to say also that I believe it is the way for our sins to be washed away and for us to become spiritually clean & pure.

I am a Christian, and have been saved, when you are baptized in The Holy Spirit, you are confessing Jesus Christ as your saviour to all around you, but you must be saved first and acknowledge Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for your sins, asking forgiveness and repenting. If you are baptized when you are a small child, you need to be baptized when you actually know and have an understanding. ANd then only Once.

Baptism is an outward symbol of an inward change. It is telling the world that I accept Jesus sacrifice for my sins. It mimics the death burial and Resurrection of Jesus. IE I "die" to sin, I am buried "by Jesus blood" and I am resurrected to new life in Him. Seventh-Day Adventist

Through the ordinance of baptism, we make a promise, called a covenant, with God. We promise to accept Christ, to become His followers, and to keep His commandments to the end of our lives. In return, our Heavenly Father promises to forgive our sins and let us return to live with Him, provided we keep our covenants.

Baptism means symbolicly dying to your former way of life and being reborn to serve God. Your body should momentarily be entirely submerged in water. It is done to publicly declare your intentions to serve Jehovah. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses

Can One Be Baptized Incorrectly?
It is certain one can be baptized incorrectly. Yahweh shows us that one will not receive the part of Yahweh's Holy Spirit that guides into truth unless he is baptized correctly according to the procedure Yahweh has set through His Scriptures. All actions commanded by Yahweh, including baptism, must be done according to the procedure Yahweh has set.

Exodus 25:40—
And see that you make them according to the pattern which was shown to you on the mountain.

Unless we are willing to take all the Holy Scriptures and go exactly according to what Yahweh says, then we will not receive the part of Yahweh's Holy Spirit which guides into truth. The correct procedure for baptism Yahweh's way is:

1. A person is called (drawn) by the part of Yahweh's Holy Spirit called the Spirit of Calling. He now earnestly desires to repent of sin.

2. This person is then baptized according to the procedure Yahweh has set, through the authority of the One Yahweh has set as His High Priest of this current age, as guided by Yahweh's Holy Spirit.

3. Then, this newly baptized person must have the hands of Yahweh's ministers laid upon him to receive the portion of Yahweh's Holy Spirit that guides into truth. The truth of Yahweh, into which Yahweh's Holy Spirit guides us, is the Law of Yahweh (Psalm 119:142,151).

First, Yahweh's Holy Spirit operates in two parts. The first part is Yahweh's Spirit of Calling, which comes to a person when Yahweh seeks him to come and be his.

Yahchanan 6:44—
No man can come to Me, unless the Father, Who has sent Me, draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

A person receives this Spirit of Calling, answers it, and becomes correctly baptized according to the procedure Yahweh has set. The part of Yahweh's Holy Spirit which guides a person into all truth comes when the ministers of Yahweh lay hands upon that person. Then, the person can grow in the knowledge and understanding of the truth (Yahweh's Laws) as one of Yahweh's children.

Yahchanan 14:16-17—
16 Then I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter, that Yahweh's Spirit may remain with you forever__
17 The Spirit of Truth, which the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him, nor know Him. But you know Yahweh, for He dwells with you, and will be in you.

Yahchanan 16:13__
However, when Yahweh's Spirit of Truth has come, it will guide you into all truth; for it will not speak; and it will show you things to come.

Hosheyah 4:6--
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you will be no priest to Me. Because you have forgotten the Law of Yahweh, I will also forget your children.

Yahweh did not inspired Hosheyah to say anyone could be saved because of his ignorance.

Deuteronomy 4:2--
You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor shall you take anything from it, so that you may keep the commandments of Yahweh your Father which I command you.
