First of all it's not the FAA that makes the rules of what can and can't go through the checkpoint, second even if it is ok with the airlines for something to go on their plane, if TSA says no, then no it is, and as far as getting a knife through the checkpoint, well it's a no no, you can put it in your checked baggage, but please put it in something so if you bag needs to be opened for screening the TSA Officer won't cut them self.

No problem at all. My advice is to show up at the airport in plenty of time for your flight. Next, wrap a turban around your head, take the butcher knife and hold it high overhead and go running straight through the security checkpoint.

Not only will you get free room and board for the next several years, you will not have to worry about FAA policies anymore.

Sorry chap. Absolutely no knives of any kind in carry on luggage. You can, however, transport that butcher knife through checked baggage.

No weapons... they probably won't let you take it either way... if you know where you will be staying.. have it shipped via UPS or something..
