the reason why I have bad teeth is due to the fact that I have lupus and fibromyalgia not due to poor dental hygiene

My husband did that too and later it was suggested that he was allergic to the novacaine. The stuff the dentist used to just numb him with. It was really wierd. He has been to the dentist too. It never happened before. I hope you're feeling better.

I have nothing more to add than what the others have suggested in terms of possible causes. I just wanted to tell Sunny that she is a rude, insensitive, ignorant, nasty person. "Brush your teeth and floss???" Sunny, do you not realize that not everyone who loses teeth (I've had seven extracted so far, replaced by five implants) loses them because of poor dental hygeine? This asker (as she pointed out after your rude response) has lupus and fibromyalgia. I have something called dentinogenesis imperfecta type II (look it up, if you'd like) and my teeth are very prone to apical abscesses (even in the absence of any cavities) Because I literally have no canals in my roots (they are obliterated, due to my condition), no root canals can be performed. Therefore, the ONLY choice is extraction. I have impeccable oral hygeine...absolutely impeccable. However, no amount of care for my teeth can change my condition (it is hereditary) or change certain complications from lupus or fibromyalgia. Cancer sufferers who undergo chemotherapy can also have issues with their teeth, regardless of their oral hygeine. I am just blown away by your ignorance. You need to stop and think next time before you pass judgement on someone! (I wanted to add that I'm not trying to compare my dental disease with lupus, fibromyalgia, or cancer. I am simply pointing out that there are a myriad of reasons one can have issues with their oral health that have nothing to do with how well they care for their teeth.)

It depends. If you used local (not put to sleep) and didn't eat that morning, then there's a good posibility. If you used general (put to sleep) and you did eat that morning, then there's a good poslibility. However, you just might have been really nervous and had a hard time coping. As long as you're all right now, it shouldn't happen again.

could have been the meds. But I think it was more likey that you were scared to death when you started to gag on the gauze. And the shaking was a reaction to fear.
