It depends...you'd give higher amounts if you're wealthy people. If you're giving actual money, or a check, in my experience most people give $100. If you're actually buying a gift, you can spend around $50. I definitely wouldn't do less than $50.

You don't "HAVE" to spend anything. However, if you're going to their wedding, it would be nice of you to bring a present. Check places like Macy's, Target, JCPenney, places that have wedding registries. If they are registered, find something inexpensive on there. Or Gift Cards are always good. Then they can get what they want. I wouldn't spend more than $25-$50.

You do not need to give a money gift if you would rather give an actual gift.
It is strange that youw ere invited to the wedding of someone you don't even know.
Gift according to your budget and your affection for the couple. It's your own best judgement.

You need to determine what is the amount that you can afford to spend on the happy couple. If it is $20 then that is what you spend. Get their list from where ever and get them the cheaper items on their list (these are the items that most people won't buy because they don't want to appear cheap, but they are also the items that are needed most).

I don't like to spend more than $20 on people I don't know very well. I suggest going to a cheap discount store like BigLots or the Dollar Tree and putting together a gift basket. At dollar stores, everything costs a dollar. You can often find really cool dishes for a dollar a piece. A basket, four plates, four bowls, four saucers, and four mugs only costs $16 plus tax. And it looks like you spent a lot more on them than you actually did.

I would give a $50 gas card--because gas is so expensive and everyone has a car, it's easy and useful.
Other than that, call it good. Between $25 and $50 is good in my books!

Well, 20 is considered cheap nowadays, and it doesn't go far. 50 is a nice, round figure. You don't overgive or undergive...and you aren't obligated to give more than that because you are not close.
