I think your passport will be ok to prove you are you, but you still need your visa to be up to date. I don't mean to repeat something silly like making sure your visa is valid, but flying to Hawaii isn't like just driving across state lines. You can use your UK passport just bring your green card, tourist visa, sutdent visa, or whatever you are legally in the US along with your passport and you will be fine.

However, regulations are always changing so do not take my answer or any other answer here as your absolute complete solution. Call the airline you have booked your ticket on and also call you nearest UK consulate just to confirm. I am a US citizen and I do not have a current state ID. I have an old expired Hawaiian driver's license that works outside the US, but when I am in the US I use my Passport as offical ID. I also currently work outside of the US so am a frequent flyer to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Bangkok, and Singapore. I just check with the airlines first when I am confirming my flight and don't worrry about it.

The point here is that sometimes airlines are not aware of current law and they make their own rules. It is best to know what the law is so you can inform the clueless person at the ticket counter of what is required if there is a problem. If the airline were to transport you to Hawaii and for some reason they wouldn't let you enter then the airline is responsible to return you to your point of departure. As long as your visa is valid I know you can travel to Hawaii though and that has nothing to do with state law or a State ID.

Important note- If by some remote chance the airline gives you a problem when boarding then ask them for a "destination waiver". It might take a surpervisor to know what this is, but it is just a form you sign saying that you will be responsible to pay for the return airfare if there is a problem, which there won't be. When you arrive in Honolulu you do not have to go through immigration you just walk off the plane and that is it. The airline is the one who is responsible for making sure you are legal to fly.

Honestly, I don't think there will be any problem at all, so just confirm with the airline twice, then just don't bother to worry. Hawaii, is very laid back and you will have a wonderful time..

No matter where in the WORLD you travel, your passport will do just fine w/o any other type of ID...and yes, Hawaii has been a state for about 40 yrs now.

BTW, how in the world are you getting by in CA w/o a state ID? You need it for absolutely everything in CA.

I would call the airlines and ask them. Hawaii is in the U.S. so you dont need a passport to travel there, you just need some kind of identification that you are you when you check in the airport.
