For a week & a 1/2 now, it's the first of this medication I've ever been on, I'm using it for irritability & mood. The question is I felt great the 1st week, I really felt it working, & the side effect of insomnia to go with it. Now it's not working any more, i only had the side effects for 3-4 days & now I feel the same I felt before taking it. Is this possible?? I called & talked to a nurse at the doc office, but everyone telling me I gotta give it at least 2 weeks to feel better, But I tell them you don't understand it made me feel better almost immediatly & now it's not workin no more Is this normal? or am I crazy? 2pts either way ;-)

No matter what you have to give yourself time to get used to medications. I was on lexapro for awhile and it took about 3 weeks to feel the effects. I know you said that you felt better the first few days and you might have, but those also could have been just "good days." Everyone has good days and bad days. If you give your medication some time, it should work. If not try another medicine because not all medications work for everyone. You have to find the right one for your body. But for now, just wait it out another week or two before you stop. Hopefully, everything goes well.

I think that it takes several weeks or more for this drug to take effect. I took it at one point in my life and after about one month, I noticed that I no longer had that dark cloud over me. I felt normal. It was very subtle but apparent. My mistake was stopping the medication after 3 months feeling that I no longer needed it. I slowly became depressed again and I plan to start taking it again. This time I will continue regardless of how much better I am. If you have any questions, consult your physician always. Good Luck

Give the medication time to work. You may have felt like it was working the first week, but it could have been because you wanted it to work. After a few weeks, if you still aren't seeing any signs of it helping, contact your doctor and maybe he/she can increase your dosage. Most doctors start out at a low dose and work their way up so it won't be such a shock to your system. Hope this helps!

I went on antidepressants 7 years ago. I kept taking myself off of them because it didn't seem to be working. Finally my family took me to a psychiatrist. She said i definitely needed to be on something. I have a major anxiety disorder. Anyway I once again thought it wasn't working but i kept on it and went back every week or two for a checkup. Your nurse is right, it just takes time. After about a month or so i started feeling more normal. 7 years later that stopped working and they put me on Lexapro. It is working so far, it just takes time. When you are going through it, I know that it feels like forever but it will work.

In my experience it takes the full to weeks to experience all of the benefits on a constant basis of the medication. If you were starting to feel good right after you took it, maybe it was just a mood swing if ur bp. I don't know the answer, other than give it time

I agree with the doctors office it will take at least 2 weeks to take full effect, maybe more, they can always consider increasing to 20 mg if 10 does not help, stick to it, good luck

If you don't like the way you feel, tell the doctor. There are many different SSRIs, and sometimes it takes trying a few before you find the right one. Don't settle with the doctor telling you to wait weeks. You know your body.

I used to take it b4 I got switched to a stronger med. It worked for me. Give it some more time. By the time you go back to see the doctor it should start working. If not, let him know then.
