It does alarm me that the amount of questions on weight loss that goes on here. I can't say it's surprising though because we as a society have been raised on quick fix ideas that require no work.
What's even more amazing to me is the fact that those that are giving advice on weight loss have so small of a grasp on nutrition and how it works. They repeat the same old tired rhetoric that they read in a Woman's day magazine or hear on Oprah. There is a very limited understanding on how helpful lean muscle mass is in fat loss, and they are further perpetuating the crash diet fads that are really no different than trying to starve yourself skinny.
It just bothers me that people can't take the extra time to research and educate themselves on something as important as their health.
Oh and it's funny to see those that have a pat answer and spam it across several different questions, most time not even reading the original question, take the post below me for example.

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.
On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.
The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!
Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.
Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.
Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

I agree totally...I read a question to day about some one wanting to lose 20lbs in a month...I replied it was unwise to try to lose so much weight in such a short time..to aim for 1-2 lbs a week...if the weight came of slowly and sensibly then there is a chance it will stay off...there is too much pressure on the young to be waif like thin...there is a big difference between slim and skinny...skinny isn't nice,

i do, I'm a Child Care Health Coordinator, and some of the responses given are ridiculous.. number one, only a nutritionist should actually give a diet to these children.. that's not to say recommending fruits/vegetables/water and cutting out sodas is out of line.. but people shouldn't be telling them to check out this diet or that diet.. next.. it doesn't help these children with their self-esteem when someone tells them they should be on a 500 calorie diet and they try it and fail.. and some of the advice on here can land people in the hospital if followed.. children should ask their school nurses or doctors rather than ask for advice on here.

Yes, I just read a question from a young girl asking if she starved herself for 60 days, would she lose a lot of weight.

Yes this is a huge problem! When I see some of these questions and some of the answers are so ridiculous, I tell them to not pay any attention to the answers, it can get really irritating. It is a big problem yes!

Xenical works in your intestines, where it blocks some of the fat you eat from being absorbed. This undigested fat is then eliminated in your bowel movements. Use Xenical together with a reduced-calorie diet. The weight management effects of Xenical continue only as long as you are taking it.
