my eldest just turned 18yrs ive heard that if he goes into full time employment he might have to pay full rent to the council as i am on housing benefit the rent is paid for me, is this true ?

so if they both start work do they all have to pay rent to the council or is it shared and do my benefits change when my eldest starts work even tho my youngest is still at school

waht will happen is when you notifiy the council that he lives with you they will assess his income and because the house is in your name you wont be able to claim as much housing benefit .I went to live with my daughter and i worked full time she was on housing benefits and she could only get £10.00 housing benefit so i had to pay the rest.but its only you that will be responsible to make sure the council get their money how to get around it is tell the council hes using your address as a care of address C/O. that way your housing benefits wont change,he has to say hes homeless sleeping at differnet homes every night and your address is just for his mail,and just charge him privately for rent.

Yes, once hes 18 your housing benefit will change, if he goes into employment maybe he will have to pay, but if he goes into full-time education, then you will need to show a letter from his place of study to show this.

Yes, this is true. This is income coming into the household. He, is an adult now. Doesn't matter if he is your child. You have to report things that change in the balance of your finances! Good Luck

Yes it is true and there is also the council tax to consider!! You should be entitled to tax credits though which will top it up a bit
