You know, you'll be eating these yummy fruits then a few minutes later while you are chewing, your tongue and mouth start hurting :(

I don't think it's the acid because it usually only hurts when it rubs against your tongue or the walls of your mouth. If it was acid, it would hurt all over the tongue, but it only hurts where the actual piece is. IDK.

That is the sign of an ALLERGY! I know this all too well, as I'm allergic to pineapple. When I was younger, the only sign of the allergy was that my mouth and tongue got sore after consuming pineapple. However, since I didn't know any better, I assumed pineapple was simply "like that" for everyone -- even though it wasn't!

As I got older, the allergy got worse! Now I don't just have a sore mouth; I also experience severe pain and cramping in my stomach and intestinal tract, I feel nauseus, sometimes headachey and just overall "ill". Thank goodness the allergy does not cause my throat to swell up or my lungs to close up, which IS what happens to a former friend of mine.

My point is that if you continue eating ANY food that causes your mouth to burn or hurt, you need to STOP. Otherwise, you are at risk for making the allergy worse. I have it too, with pineapples and kiwis and i am not allergic. I have read somewhere that drinking a glass of milk before eating the fruit will prevent it. It has to do with something inside that particular fruit but i dont know what it is. All i know is, it is experienced by many people and it is not neccesarily a sign of allergy. If you think the pain gets too bad, i think it is wise to follow one of the other answerer's advice and stop eating it, as you might develop an allergy. However, i dont think there is anything wrong with you.

You may be very sensitive or allergic to the fibers. And yes, the acidity may have something to do with it too.

Try taking a benadryl before you eat them, and then you'll know for sure if it could be an allergic reaction
