The 'size' of the layer of the pyramid corresponds proportionally to the 'amount' of that type of food you should eat compared to your total food intake as represented by the total area of the food pyramid.

The foods at the top of the pyramid are the ones you need the least. The most important ones,the ones on the broad base of the pyramid are the ones your body needs for survival .

The base of the pyramid is the foundation, the foundation foods needed for survival.

Um... it's a pyramid. That's what they do.

It's not a top, a downwards-pointing arrow, a box, a big truck, or a series of tubes. It's a pyramid (triangle, w/e)

its related to how many portions you should take at the day
as you go up the portions or the servings are less so that's why it goes smaller
