Believe it or not this is a question posed by the teacher, that these 12 yr olds were expected to answer. We live in Canada and the education system here is somewhat questionable to say the least...I guess it was because of the shuttle and all that...but really how big a waste of time was it...hmmmm let's see....Government of Ontario Dept of Education.....big waste of time....teach math that has no practical use, ask quesitons that have no answer...hmm only in Canada you say...pity!!

The earth is about 25,000 light years from the edge of the galaxy. If you want to find your exact distance, you cannot because nobody knows exactly. Besides, 25,000 light years is billions and billions of miles. If you're off by a couple hundred million, no one's gonna mind.

Are you expecting a letter from elsewhere in the galaxy, or do you need to give someone flying directions?
Perhaps you mean location, but then your question is (if anything) even harder to answer, as the edge of the galaxy more closely resembles the edge of a pancake than a specific point on that pancake.
We're closer to the edge than the center, if that helps.
perhaps a visit to www.nasa.gov would help you out.

your address is the edge of the galaxy, since our solar system is thought to be in one of the spiral arms of the milky way galaxy. Just knock on the first door you come to and there you are.
