it'll be fairly close.... those machines can be as much as 20% off but if you enter your age and weight instead of just hitting quickstart it'll be more accurate. also that is based on using the machine properly... if you're leaning over and resting your upper body on the machine you won't burn as many because your upper body is at rest and you won't get nearly as much oxygen. when you're on it stand up straight with your tummy and back tall and strong, and breathe deeply in rhythm with your steps.

Depends! I use one three time a week at min. and use the resitance level of three, depending on my course I use, I work it for a total of 20 minutes each time. If I really lay into, I might get on average 360+ calories burned during that time.
To me if the resistance level is not turned up, then you could burn 400 calories! I burned 417 calories using this machine when I took a protein bar and drank a can of Red Bull! The most ever for me in a 20 min. cardio session!

The machine I used yesterday said I burned about 300 in a half hour. I did not have the resistance set very high (3) so if you have more resistance and work faster then you would burn more energy/calories than I did. I think it only works if you don't go home and eat a couple of powerbars afterwards. :)

I use an eliptical also, and a trainer told me that, depending on the setting you use, the actual calories burned can be as much as 20% less than what the readout says. In other words, if it says you burned 400 calories, the actual figure may only be like 320. Still, that's not bad, and all in all the eliptical is a good no-impact cardio workout.

I guess it would be very possible cuz I power walk a mile and a half in 30 minutes and burn almost two hundred according to my pedometer so you are working out at a faster pace with an elliptical machine.

Probably not. Most of those machines are not very accurate when it comes to calculating the number of calories you are burning on them. But it all depends on your weight, age, and intensity level you are working out at.
