Highlight the number you want to make an exponent. Then go to Format in the top tool bar, and go to font. In the font box there are various options for font details. Choose the one for superscript. That will make the number an exponent.

Alrighty, follow this carefully.

Open Microsft Word.
If you have the toolbar set up, there will be a button somewhere that looks like a square root sign. When you put your mouse over it, it will say Equation Editor.
If not..On the Insert menu, click Object, and then click the Create New tab.
In the Object type box, click Microsoft Equation 3.0.
Then, type in your number and its exponent. Highlight the exponent and on the Toolbar, Click the Third button on the second row. It should be a gray box with two smaller blue rectangles near it. Click that and then select the one with a gray box and the little blue box where you want your highlighted numbe to go to.

If you follow instructions as you're doing it, it makes more sense.

Good luck!

You have to use equation editor.

Once you have your blank page open in Word, go to tools, select customize, then in the commands folder, scroll down until the folder on the left is the insert folder, click that, then scroll the listings on the right shows equation editor. Click that icon and drag it to your toolbar. Then when ever you need to add an exponent or fraction or square root sign or anything math related, you can use that icon.
