1. Why are the majority of people who think this Latino?

2. Why is it supposedly an act of a bigot to not support an illegal act?

3. I came here with my family from Mexico legally, but unlike some I was raised to assimilate and take pride in my new country, by speaking its language and working to make it better, so why do people think just because of my background I should support open borders?

4. Why do people always bring up "but this country was founded on immigrants..." yeah, that was 200 years ago when we actually needed citizens, now this country is suffering massive wage cuts, tax increases, lower standard of living, more diseases like TB, larger classrooms, and higher crime due to illegal immigration, so your outdated reference is nonsense.

5. Why do people always bring up "This country was originally blahblah's then you stole it?" Look throughout history, most major countries were stolen! Stop living in the past and get a real argument.

People resort to name calling when they don't have answers or intelligent thoughts.

Well, it certainly appears that *many* of the most vocal opponents are indeed bigots, when they go on TV and say things like, "Our country is turning brown!" "Spanish is spoken more often in California than English!" (both quotes from Pat Robertson). Add to that the fact that the vast majority of the protests are against illegal immigrants from Latin America (whereas there are over 2 million *white* illegal immigrants in the country, estimated) and the noise does take on a racist tone.

As to your #4 -- massive wage cuts, tax increases, lower standard of living, larger classrooms, higher crime. Hmm, well the crime rate is actually DOWN all over the US over the past 10+ years. The rest is mainly due to Bush's economic policies, and has nothing to do with illegal immigrants. Even the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants are still only less than 3% of the total US population, they just don't have that great of an impact on services, schools, or taxes.

Perhaps you should educate yourself on the facts around an issue before spouting off on it, hmm? By the way, your family's "assimilation" ethic is admirable -- but it's not the only way. This is a free country, remember? If immigrants, legal or not, want to hold onto their language, traditions, etc. they're perfectly free to do so -- that's what America is all about. Vive la difference!

People say that we are bigots because we stick up for our country, like that is a bad thing. They say we are wrong for wanting to protect our country, because they are making money on our borders being open. I am proud to hear that you and your family came here legally. I am proud to hear that you take pride in the USA, and learned to speak the language of it. If everyone from mexico did as you did, then no one would look at the illegal immigration problem and automatically say mexican, since they would not be the largest group anymore.
People bring up America's history as a way of TRYING to justify their actions, but do not get that without people coming here in the first place, America would not have been able to become a country.
People do not like to see the real NEGATIVE impact that illegal immigration is having on our country. What they should look at is that in the past, immigration was something that was needed and helped us, now it hurts us, badly.
This country was stolen, so what. Yes, it was a bad thing, yes the Indians deserve better lands than what we have given back to them, yes many died. But that is what happened in every other country, warlords came and took over lands, and made the people either serve or die. This is life, survival of the fittest, and people need to get over it.
Once all of America wakes up, there will be no illegal immigration issue, because the citizens will not stand for it, and will take the law into their own hands and end the problem.

Because the majority of illegals (today) are Hispanic, you get a mix of racists on one side + those on the other side accusing others as being racists.

Instead of being a real dialog on the issue, people will twist things so that you're painted as a bad person if you oppose ILLEGAL immigrants. Even the proponents of the ILLEGAL aliens try to twist things-- ILLEGAL aliens becomes illegal immigrants becomes undocumented immigrants becomes immigrants. So by proxy and transformation if you have an issue with illegal aliens you become anti-immigrant. And for most people, that is NOT the case. We are supposed to be a country run by the rule of law and few reasonable people are ok with people breaking the law-- even if that means just coming to live here in the USA.

Many Mexicans are not in fact indigenous - there are those of Spanish decent (yeah, they're Caucasian Europeans), some are from indigenous peoples and some are obviously mixed.
Ethnicity is not the same as race-- but in this PC world we tend to make up things to suite our own purposes.

The majority of the people against illegal immigration are only against it because they do not want Hispanic people to become a majority in this country and jeopardize the capitalist system we have by hurting the economy. First off, I do not advocate any illegal activity and I am not of Hispanic descent, but I do not advocate inhumane treatment of induviduals based on their social or racial profile. The idea that this country was populated by immigrants to begin with, all of which did not require strict naturalization to become citizens, is not relevant to our current situation, but where and when does one draw the line? What year was it exactly that it was no longer acceptable for peoples to immigrate without documentation? Also, if "most countries were stolen", what makes it okay for us to use that as an excuse to rape and villify certain races for our own advancement; for example, the Native Americans, the Africans, the Chinese, the Irish, the Italians, the Japanese, etc. and so forth? How can we continue to lie to ourselves as a nation in saying that we do not welcome the Mexican people with open arms while we are utterly dependant on them for labor? I think it is not only ignorant and narrow-minded to say that we need to keep out immigrants who come here only to better themselves and their families, but it is a crime against humanity. Of course, if you're a right-wing Republican, you're okay with that.

the democratically elected government is entitled to make anything illegal. whether this is jaywalking or wading across the Rio Grande. It is up to them. That is the law of your country.

Outside of the letter of the law, there is a moral spirit in people which knows the injustice that has been done. It is deep in the hearts of us all. Three or four generations will be needed to cleanse the nation of the bad blood. When native americans were treated as they were (and I don't need to go into the bloody details), this shadow lies over us still. Here in England we will take a long time to balance the situation in Northern Ireland, perhaps 300 years.

I totally agree with you. I do not care if someone wants to come this country, just do it legally. And people need to stop living in the past.

Have you read the posts. A lot of people don't say ILLEGAL they simply say MEXICAN and even though you and your family are legal, they will automatically assume otherwise because of your ethnicity.

As for the rest, everyone needs an argument.

It's a politically correct strategy for getting Mexican immigrants and other Latinos into positions of power in the U.S. so that they may share in our success.

You know your 5) question is not too bright, some might argue that Mexicans are just stealing it right back.
And to Well traveledprog, you took the words right out of my mouth. Very correct and well written response. And Pat Robertson has his KKK hood in hiding.
