I'm manic depressive and took Prozac last time I had a relapse because the depression (and anxiety) was really bad. It did help me, although it took a few agonizing weeks (I think we went with too low a dose initially).
Good or bad? It really depends on the individual, and individual reactions to it seem impossible to predict.
I do find it alarming, the sheer numbers of people who are taking it for long periods of time, especially women who take it for postpartum depression and then stay on it during subsequent pregnancies. I guess it's easier/cheaper to prescribe/take a pill than to try to find the root cause of the depression and work that out.
Why so many people are depressed might make another good discussion question, but I won't get into it here.

It is a very good antidepressant with few side effects. The biggest side effect that people notice is low libido. When I took it and questioned this side effect from the doctor he said, "You know what causes low libido more than anything? Depression." However, this side effect is definitely something to be concerned about in my estimate.
If you take Prozac, you will feel the effect in 2 - 4 weeks. It really works on chemical unbalance in the brain. It's best though if you can stop after 6 months. I believe long term use of Prozac can cause such dependence and is so difficult to wean yourself from.

I got it prescribed for anxiety and it was the worst stuff I ever had in my life. It altered my moods, made me depressed more, and if I didn't realize it was the pill making me feel so weird, because I didn't feel THAT weird before I took it I could have turned suicidal. I hear alot of people have that have taken it. I also see it advertized on tv that they are probably taking it and some of its derivitives off market. Alot of them are from the Prozac family. But some people say it's worked for them. It makes my heart palpitate and I just feel strange body and head wise. I don't advise anyone to get involved with it. And not just because of my experience with it and it derivitives. Like I said alot of people have got along with it. Might just depend on what wrong and what's causing the problem. Check with a Med Psych., they'd be the best to talk to. My advice don't take it until you've gotten a couple of opinions, and if you do really watch how you feel and think. Good luck and please be careful.

This isn't really a good question for this space. I work with people with emotional problems and you would be shocked by the views people give about taking meds. Ask you're self this have you tried any behavioral approaches to your problems? Have you been completely open and honest with your Psychiatrist. Do you trust that person? Remember pills only help ease some of the symptoms you will still need to work on issues that hold you back. They won't cure you but can help to get you over the hump to change your life for the better. Also remember like with any meds those side effect warnings aren't there to take up space. While SSRIs are pretty safe keep in touch with you re doctor

Follow the advice of administering doctor. If your doctor believes you need prozac I have no doubt that you need some sort of antidepressant. You have to take it for several months before it builds up to effective levels so give it a shot. If the other side effects are to great (it can have sexual side effects) let your doctor know and they can put you on another medication. But on the whole Prozac is very effective.

In order to take prozac, you need to get a doctor's permission. It is good for you if you need it for anxiety or have difficulty dealing with people in general.. However, some people have a bad reaction to it or no reaction at all if they don't need it. The best thing to do is check with your doctor.
