I make a baked fish pie which is not so bad to smell -

2 catfish fillets
1 clove garlic
1 ginger
1 medium onion chopped
1 tea spoon of italian spices
1/2 cup of any pasta - preferably elbows/ shells
1/2 cup of vegetables - peas, corns, edmame, carrots
2 medium sized potatoes
bread crumbs
tomato ketchup
1 teaspoon chopped parsley
1 tsp chopped basil
1 tsp chopped mint leaves
grated cheese - 1/2 cup
2 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp black pepper
salt to taste

Boil fish with garlic and ginger. Cool and mash. Boil the pasta separately and drain.

Fry finely chopped onions in hot oil. Add the vegetables, Add the pasta followed by italian spices, pepper, and the fish, making sure it does not stick to the pan. Add salt and pepper and keep aside to cool. When cooled down add teh grated cheese to the mix.

Mash the potatoes along with chopped basil, mint ans parsley.
Use half to layer a baking tray. Put the fish mixture on it and cover with other half of mashed potatoes. Sprinkle with bread crumbs and dot with some ketchup.

Bake at 350 deg in an oven for 25 mintues or uuntil top is lightly browned.

Rule #1 with seafood is that if it smells fishy, then it's probably not fresh and you don't want to buy it. Fresh fish doesn't have a particularly pungent scent.

Personally, my favorite recipe is to marinate salmon fillets/steaks in some freshly squeezed lemon juice, capers and freshly ground black pepper for about 30 minutes. Then I slap them on a grill or in a pan and cook till done. Serve with sauteed vegetables and some steamed rice and you've got a full meal that's very healthy!

try cod or tilapia, they are less fishy to begin with. Frying or barbecuing add lots of additional flavors to the fish, not to disguise it but to compliment it and help you gain an appreciation for a good cut of fish. Start out small, like a 3 oz portion, and you will acquire a taste for it. I used to only eat fried shrimp or fish sticks, and now I will even eat sushi!!

Get some of the juices out of the meat.

That is: Contrast cooking on the BBQ grill compared to frying in a pan - the BBQ grill should be less fishy tasting (and perhaps drier for better or for worse).

only FYI, clean fish does no longer smell fishy. It does no longer smell in any respect. also, clean fish have clean eyes, fairly patterned epidermis and tight scales. also, all fish have bones, your butcher or whoever preps the fish on the marketplace is responsible for deboning your fish. I continually run my palms alongside the filets and use a small pair of pliers to get rid of and intensely last bones. it really is somewhat no vast deal. Salmon and massive sea fish have more beneficial bones, of route, so that they are extra straightforward to bone than small fish, which have a lot of tiny bones. it really is almost no longer conceivable to absolutely debone a small fish without tearing it aside. Shellfish don't have any bones, only cartiledge slivers which also favor to be bumped off. sturdy success.

What you want is a mild flakey fish. Start with that. Try a Mahi Mahi, Halibut, or Cod. Then just bake it.

I bake halibut with tomato sauce and parmesan cheese, and even people who don't usually like fish like this dish.
You also might try frying it in a well seasoned batter.
Hope this helps!
