Oh, it's not just the religious who are lying to themselves. That goes for everyone who doesn't feel dead.

There is a very big difference between religion (man-made) and a relationship with our Creator. All of the historical events you mentioned were born of man's arrogance and religiousity. Those events were not about furthering the Kingdom of God, they were about power and greed. I felt alive before being becoming a Christian, but now I also have an incredible freedom that comes from living in God's grace. 'Religious' people are all about rules, that isn't what God is about. Jesus constantly rebuked those who were the most 'religious' and 'righteous'. I hope this makes sense to you and that you'll look into this more.

I feel quite alive and I am very not religous, spiritual yes, but against religion.
People are religous because they are either afraid of thinking for themselves or have been brainwashed from birth (I managed to break free from this).
But yes, feeling dead is much worse than death, but you don't need religion to feel alive, in fact, I would say religion can make you feel dead.

People tend to be religious out of fear of the unknown. They tend to try to make others religious because that reinforces their own belief and make them feel less likely to be living a misconception.

No..I think its because they don't want to die. They think it will save them from death!

But have you noticed that only the good people die an early death..all the good ones.. and then all the bad people stay alive until they are like 140.

Whats up with that?

I think that's a pretty blanket generalization, for something as complex as why people are religious. For as many religious people, there's probably as many reasons why they are religious.

Religon is the search for purpose in life nothing else. There are those who kill in the name of religon however to kill someone who is different from you is a sin unless your life is in danger.
