I've lived here all my life! There are going to be racists no matter where you go. Unfortuantly, the KKK headquarters is in Indiana. BUt, as for running into them, I doubt it.

Indianapolis is by far one of the nicest cities ever. I've traveled around a bit, and people are more accepting of others than any other city. There are places in the city where there are more "whites" or more "blacks","hispanics" and so forth.

There will be stuck up people in the cities. They suck! But hey..you are going to get that everywhere.

So enjoy you're time in indy! Hit up Circle Center Mall, take LOTS of pics. Be sure to go to Broad Ripple for some Bagels (Broad Ripple AVE and Compton. next to the High School) Go to Castelton and shop, and don't pass up the food!

Since it is an urban center and has a diverse population, you will find Indianapolis less racist than some other areas of Indiana. I think you will probably find it about like any other city, some good some bad. If you want racists in Indiana, I would try Kokomo! Indianapolis and Bloomington are probably the best areas in the state.

i would say that indy is alot better than the towns around it. the other answerer about the kkk headquarters being here,,,,,,,,actually on the history channel..the kkk headquarters WAS in a town north of indy ..back in the 20's-60's..they aren't here now but still there's some towns north of indy that are racist like sheridan..westfield..atlanta..arcadia..muncie and others. and here in my town ..i'm about 30 minutes north of indianapolis..just next to carmel which is another racist town ..i'm in noblesville which WAS the headquarters for the kkk according to the history channel....the kkk used to run the train that runs through noblesville down to the state fairgrounds in indy and back up...they were flushed out about mid 60's but there's still some die hards here and up north.but indy is ok...

I live outside of Indianapolis, and I find that we are pretty diverse. Black Expo is here; we just had some Middle Eastern festival thing; there is a very large Muslim Mosque (sorry if I spelled that wrong) in Plainfield - just West of Indpls. There are idiots everywhere, but I wouldn't worry about it! Welcome! ♥

Indianapolis is diverse and tries to cater to ethnic people with various organizations like La Plaza (aids Hispanic people). Outside of Indianapolis is a different story. It all depends on where you go. Welcome to Indy. I hope you enjoy it ! We continue to grow and our options for entertainment/arts/culture/shopping, etc. are increasing.

Indianpolis isn't too bad, although you will see some segregation around suburbs of the city. You shouldn't have a reason to be nervous.

There are good and bad people everywhere--- there is discrimination everywhere-- Indianapolis is not a bad place to be--- the comments of the others pretty much say it all.
