I am diagnosed with asperger's. However, I have also suffered for years with depression, sometimes it's reactive, other times it comes from nowhere. My mood swings are swift and extreme, I have periods of mania when I can't sit still or shut up talking and am generally excitable, but have other periods where all I feel is total despair for no reason and I would be quite happy to go to sleep and never wake up. Generally, I feel that I have no control over my thoughts, I am unable to relax from the moment I wake up, and feel constantly anxious. So, could I have manic depression as well? Or is it all part of asperger's?

It is always dangerous to make these diagnoses yourself...and even more damgerous to expect unqualified people on the internet to diagnose you from one short paragraph.

Yes,I think so.I had Asperger's-like behavior when I was a child, though I was never diagnosed(this was in the 60's-they didn't know as much then),and I have suffered from severe depression and anxiety disorder for all of my adult life.I wonder sometimes if I am bi-polar ,as I have the same symptoms that you describe, but I have never been evaluated for it;I take enough medication for the anxiety& depression, plus Chronic fatigue syndrome and chronic back pain. It's no fun,but I guess we must try and do the best we can with the cards we are dealt in life and always know that there are people who are much worse off than we are(though sometimes it's hard to imagine).Take care and hope you're feeling better.

I have borderline personality disorder (often confused with manic depression - but not the same at all.) I think it may be more likely this. (The mood swings are much faster than with Manic Depression/Bipolar) Do Google search for borderline - there are I think 5 diagnosive factors.

i be attentive to that psychological hospitals in many situations get a foul rap, yet i've got been working in one for the previous few weeks (as a nursing pupil) and that i've got been very inspired. It sounds to me such as you may nicely be in a position the place you may seek for greater extreme help, and a place like an acute-care well being facility may well be geared up to furnish that care. sufferers in those hospitals recieve care from an entire team of psychologists, physicians, nurses, social workers, etc. collectively as some sufferers do not prefer to be there, different sufferers thrive in a placing like this, and notice it as a healing journey. yet earlier you examine your self into the closest well being facility, it may be sensible to accomplish slightly study. a lot of those instruments are "lock-down instruments," meaning that the door locks at the back of you. whether you examine in voluntarily, you won't be in a position to go away whenever you like (a minimum of not right now). It looks such as you're in a hard place good now. i'm sending you not something yet helpful thoughts and prayers, and want which you detect youself in a healthful state quickly!! stable luck!!

First, you need to go to a doctor or to your local mental health clinic. They are diagnostic experts.
That said, we all try to diagnose ourselves, and yes, you can have multiple dx. Your question is like asking, if she has measles, can she also have a headache? It is the doctor's job to figure out if the "headache" is 1. a symptom of measles; 2. a result of medication; or another malady.
Good luck to you

Why not, I doubt Asperger's confers immunity and manic depression certainly isn't uncommon, so I'd say its certainly possible.

yes. Mild symptoms would be a part of AS...but not major symtoms. Talk to your doctor about a dual diagnosis.

I have Asperger's and my symptoms aren't anything like those you describe. The least you can do is see a psychiatrist. xxx
