There are swabs now -- oragel makes the and so does zilactin. I liked the swabs because you could control much more where you were putting the pain meds. They worked well for both my kids. The gel is too hard to apply.

If it was dangerous, do you think they'd have had it on the market so long?
Just use it correctly. And dont apply it to your babys gums before they eat. Because some of the medicine will wash away with their abundance of saliva that they produce while teething and it can numb their throat up. Just use a small amount and massage it into their gums.
Those homeopathic teething tablets dont do ANYTHING. They didnt work AT all for my daughter.
Or you can use frozen waffles. That will work.
Dont overmedicate using Tylenol. It will only work for so long, and your child may build up an immunity for it.

I have 3 kids and I must say I never liked the stuff either. They have the same thing for adults for a tooth ache. My husband & I both at the same time once had a small tooth pain & used some. It was awful and very weird!!
For teething I would suggest a teething ring that you can put in the fridge.

I have never had a problem with it. If you use read the instructions and put no more then a pea size amount, I believe infants should be fine. I've given it to my son several times and don't even use a pea size amount--I use a lot less. Maybe you used it too frequently, messed up with the amount, or weren't able to put it on his gums properly. I don't know. Everyone I know who has used it--and followed the instructions--swears by it! I agree with the above poster--if it was dangerous the FDA wouldn't have approved it.

I never liked the stuff. An old wives tale is to rub a little Jack Daniels on the gums. I was lucky with both my girls they never got fussy with the whole teething thing. Maybe your son's vomiting was due to an allergic reaction to the stuff.

I used teething tablits. You can find them in any store. They are all natural and do not numb anything. They are in a pink and white bottle. Look for them in the baby section of any walmart, target, anything. Do not use the origel or anything like that. HAve you used it on yourself? Try it, not good.

It also toughens the baby's gums and makes it harder for them to cut teeth. I wouldn't recommend it either.
