Cereal is a great treat and inexpensive. Try adding mini marshmallows and raisins to the snack and putting it in a large ziploc for easy access. Also using a couple of different cereals is tasty. I use Kix, Cheerios, Rice Chex, raisins and marshmallows. Good luck and enjoy!

How about keeping some precut fruit in the fridge. Maybe goldfish, I give my son the whole grain kind and they taste no different than the regular ones. Or mini bagels, they are relatively inexpensive since a 1 yr old will maybe eat like a 1/4 of one. I personally just try to make sure that there isn't tons of sugar in the foods I give my son. I look for things made with whole grain (and there's a huge selection) and keep plenty of fruit on hand (this is mommy's favorite snack too). I switch things up once in a while by giving him something to dip the fruit in like peanut butter or caramel or sprinkle it with a little cinnamon sugar (fabulous on peaches).

Certain cereals are actually really bad for kids. So monitor which ones you are giving them. Oher inexpensive snacks that are healthy are things like baby carrots. They are sweet and crunchy. Although, not easy to chew for the one year old. Small crackers like whole grain Goldfish are good. And fruit is always good if you cut it up in chunks for them. Frozen fruit and canned (get the kind in natural juice not syrup) is pretty cheap.

Make them their own little fruit bowls, tiny chunks of apples, grapes strawberrys then add a little sugary cereal to keep them really interested. Also try and turn their attention to something besides food, its not healthy for them to be eating all day long like that espcially if its the kind of cereal my preschoolers like.

try a trail mix with chex cerel and some captins crunch i am not sure about marshmallows for the little one but for the 3 year old it would be fine and some other good stuff the like.. Put it in a jar or an old coffee can with a lid and put it on the counter so they can reach it with some bowls and they can chow down.

My daughter snacks on the little dinosaur Ritz crackers, goldfish, mini rice cakes, raisins, vanilla wafers, and teddy grahams. At 2, she is old enough to help herself if they are in the cabinet where she can reach them. She knows how to open ziploc bags, and will carry it around and eat out of it if that's what they are in.

Make them a big container of their own chex mix. Put in chex cereal, stick pretzels, marshmallows, goldfish crackers, and cheetos and mix it all up and then they can just reach in and put some in a bowl and snack on it.

Let them make their own snacks. Use crackers, cheese and maybe some sandwich meat. They'll have fun making them and eating them.
