I met my gf online in a christian chatroom. We started out with just chatting online and later swapped phone numbers. As I got to know her more we decided to meet in person. She's better looking then any of the pictures she sent or her explaination of her own looks.
I live about 1500 miles away from her. It's hard not to be able to see each other as often as we would like but I know that she still loves me and I love her as well. It takes a deep sense of trust, honesty, honesty, and commitment to make any long-distance relationship work. Love always finds a way to make things work. I laugh when I hear about people who say that long-distance relationships never work. It is because they never give it a chance to work or they don't want it to work in the beginning.
Negative thoughts will only bring negative results. Sure I had my doubts at the begining at the relationship. she was everything I ever wanted in a woman. Looks, personality, interests, morals, etc. It was too good to be true that someone like her just dropped into my life.
I have a close friend of mine who have met someone online and later on got married. They have been married for about 6 years now and I never seen him happier. Long-distance/online relationship do work, only if the couple are willing to make it work. It isn't any different than a marriage or any other relationship.
If you are looking into a long-distance/online relationship, use common sense. Some people online aren't who they make themselves out to be. Or they have some other hidden agenda. But there are those who are honest, caring, loving people who have honest hopes of meeting the love of their life online. Be careful, use good judgement, and follow your heart.

Oh yeah!! And by long distance, I mean REALLY loooong distance...think in terms of Nigeria! No, after three years it didn't work out, there was way too much "stuff" in regards to INS, etc. and I was a tad bid nervous about traveling so far alone. Even though it wasn't the brightest idea I have ever had, it was a learning experience and now I have a very dear and special friend because of it.

I did the long distance thing for about a year. It worked until he started traveling out of the country. I fell so hard and so in love with him, it was some of the greatest times in my life. We are still really close, deep down I think we still love each other, and still consider moving to be closer to each other to try again.

I met my fiance online, about 6 years ago. She read my AOL profile, and we started chatting through IM. Finally, when we realized we had a lot in common, and we both realized the other was not a stalker, we met in person.
It's had it's ups & downs over the years, but we love each other, and both have no problems with how we met. It's like going to a bar, just without the face (at first). There is no difference, and at least online, you can talk first...rather than try to make rash decisions (like if you meet someone in a bar or out & about).

Long distance relationships are a lot of work, it's painful to have to deal with the distance and you have to have a good established amount of trust, which is hard to get online or when you don't see your significant other.
