1 lb = 3500 calories. What you really need to do is alter your everyday eating habits not go on a fad diet. keep track of what you are eating everyday & what exercises you are doing. Losing weight can be painless if you just walk a bit more by parking farther away, taking the stairs ect. Stop drinking soda, even diet. Most coffee drinks & sandwichs are killers too. Ask for a listing of ingredients so you can see what is the best choice. You can still have snacks, replace the chips n salsa with green & red peppers n salsa. Replace the mayo with mustard. Stop eating foods that contain high fructose corn syrup, your body can't metabolize it = weight gain. A few simple changes can make a huge difference in the long run.
Here's a free online journal you can use.

Goran.....
The problem with diets is that people who use them seem to be on them continuously. That's not a diet but a prison sentence.
There is only one tried and true successful way to reduce your weight and keep it off. Everyone knows what it is but don't want to do it. Yep, you got it...
- reduce caloric in take
- increase caloric expenditue
or in blunt terms; stop eating so much and exercise more.
People on diets can usually do the first part of the equation but most people just can't start or even maintain a minimum exercise program. Only 30 minutes of walking 4 times a week.
Right now I am about 6 foot and weigh 175lbs. Last year I gain 50 pounds. I went to eating 2 meals a day and 4-5 days of aerobic exercises each week. In 10 week I had lost the 50 pounds and have maintained my weight at 173-178lbs for over a year. And I have reduced my exercise regime to maintain the weight.
It can be done it just takes getting into the routine. Avoid the diet prison sentence.
Just my advice...good luck on what ever plan you decide to use.

Unfortunately 'dieting' is very hard because there are so many mixed messages out there. Eat this or don't eat this or buy this pill or starve yourself. The fact is that most 'diets' set people up to fail. The only way you can really successfully lose weight and keep it off is to choose a way of eating that can be turned into a lifestyle that you can maintain. In most diets you lose weight but when you return to your normal lifestyle it comes back.
I have recently been successful at losing some weight because i found something that helped me get back to the basics on how to eat. The program I started gets you back in to eating healthy, tells you what to eat and when to eat it and it's purpose is to get your metabolism working at it's optimal level. Eating regular, healthy meals has allowed my metabolism to start working properly again. This programs teaches you how to lose weight and then it teaches you how to maintain that weight. And it really isn't hard at all to follow. Unfortunately it is a paid program but it was worth it for me and I will take what I have learned and be able to use it as a life style. The program is called Simply For Life but it's tenets are so easy one may not need the program.
I used to see how long I could go in the day without getting hungry. Then I didn't eat because of stress. And as most people seem to believe, starving yourself is not the way to do it. Eating whole, healthy foods that your body processes at a slower rate than processed foods allows your blood sugar to remain stable and you don't have the cravings etc. Water is key as well.

Simple- burn off more than you consume each day.
Avoid "empty" calories. Like sodas and junk foods and alcohol.
Drink more water and less tea+coffee.
NO red meat, NO full fat dairy. Use half fat, reduced fat or cut out dairy completely. Have tuna, chicken etc instead of red meat.
Don't fry stuff, don't add butter, mayo or sauces to things as it's hard to account for how manycalories they have. Flavour your food with spices instead.
Avoid white potatoes, white bread, rice, pasta etc.
(use sweet potatoes, wholemeal bread, brown rice instead)
The fresher the better. Raw foods, lots of fruit and veg. Not just your usual apples, bananas, lettuce and cucumber, go have a look around the supermarket and buy loads of weird looking stuff. Try all the fruit and veg you can. Dark leafy veg is good.
Try not to buy tinned stuff and if you do, buy tinned stuff which doesn't have added salt and sugar.
Eat a few hundred calories less than is recommded for your sex and mass.
Eg: woman is usually 2000 calories per day.
No less than 1500 calories per day for weight loss.
