You have a 'very' valid point. Meat is meat, no matter how you look at it. Most of these so-called Vegetarians are just hypocritical. They profess one thing and yet do another.
Example: look at the 'Tree Huggers' screaming "Save the rain forest!" while driving their gigantic Hummer to Central Market or Whole Food Market to buy those raspberries or other exotic vegetables in the middle of January. Where do these morons think those agricultral products are grown at that time of the year? Hint: in that clear cut rain forest that they profess to love so much.
Ever see that commercial 'Pork, the other white meat.' ???
Since when is pork a white meat? It has always been a red meat, yet these 'sheep' buy into the commercial hype and delude themselves.
Vegetarian? Yeah, right.

I guess they don't eat anything else but vegetables do they want to get protein into their body. Or they could just have thought that seafood and chicken are different. They maybe thought that seafood is different because it live in the water and chickens live on land. A lot of people get confused with that.

In my case it is because I'm still in "transition" from slaughtered mammals, to getting to the point of not eating ANYTHING with a "face" at all.
I'm not a big seafood eater, but it helped to shift my thinking from "meat & three veg" to substituting fish.... nowdays I'm almost totally veg, still use occasional free range eggs though.
I think ANY step that people make to shift away from causing animal suffering and slaughter is to be applauded, even if they are "ecclectic" vegetarians for a while, I'm thrilled with any move in the right direction.

Ugh! I totally get you!
You either are a vegetarian or you're not! There is no middle! It's not more politicaly correct to just eat fish or chicken! Meat is meat! Living creatures all have a point in common before they end up on your plate...they're living!!!

I knew this woman that claimed to be a Vegetarian, but she drank milk, ate eggs, cheese, fish, seafood, shellfish, and she even raised her own meat, calves, chicken, hogs and that sort of thing that she had butchered for her kids to eat. I think that she was really really confused, and I am not so sure that when no one was around, she did not take a bite now and then herself...

I think only vegans can not use the "its cruel to animals" label without fear of hypocracy. Dairy cows are rarely allowed to nurse their young. Many male calves are slaughtered immediately. Chickens are pumped full of anti-biotics to keep them laying and factory farmed under terrible conditions to keep prices down.
However any step people make towards reducing suffering should be welcomed, and further progress encouraged. Calling people hypocrites is usually unproductive.

They want to be considered vegans for the cachet that carries in society but they don't want to actually carry the burden of all that it entails. I say, if God didn't want us to eat animals He wouldn't have made them out of meat.
