The purpose is so the state does not have to pay to keep you in jail until trial. It is not free to keep people in jail, in fact it is quite expensive. Also for many, many minor crimes, like DUI, which may involve some jail time, it doesn't make sense to keep someone in jail for three or four weeks until trial.
Bond essentially ensures that you come back to court, as you have to put up some of your own money, usually 10%, that you will lose if you fail to appear. Example: you are caught stealing from your neighbors garage and are arrested for breaking and entering and theft. You are released on $5,000 bail, of which you put up $500 and got a bail bond (special loan) for $4,500. If you fail to appear, you lose the $5,000 and the bail bondsman is pissed because he lost $4,500. If you show up you get the $5,000 back and can pay back the bail bondsman.

You can pay your bail to get out of jail and promise to go to court. If you have to go back to jail then atleast you are not going to be in jail until your trial starts because lets face it you would be in jail for a long time the way our court system works.

The idea of innocent to proven guilty, and a large majority of people are found not guity or the charges are latter dropped.
It keeps someone from sitting in jail for 6 months while the crime lab sees if it is really drugs or not.

It is to allow someone out of incarceration pending their next court appearance, and the fact that there is money on the line should ensure they show up for all court appearances and don't flee.

IT'S SO YOU CAN GET OUT OF JAIL RIGHT AWAY SO YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SIT IN THERE UNTIL YOUR COURT DATE.
IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO PAY AND YOU WANT TO STAY IN THERE. THEN THEN DON'T PAY AND STAY IN THERE......
BUT DO US TAX PAYERS A FAVOR AND POST BOND!

The sad truth is that the government belongs in jail with the rest of the rapists because they jump at every chance to rape us of our money and spend it on themselves.
