I like the social structure, sense of community and social activities many offer but wish they wouldn't try to tell people what to believe or how to live beyond basic morals and common sense. I guess it just depends on the relgion. I would prefer a more open place that allowed spiritual exploration instead of all this forced indoctrination. I mean, what makes them so certain they know everything? Why can't people just enjoy life and get along?

Do you mean all religion? I can only answer on my faith, for i have no religion. I am a Christian, I think that the organized religions that are associated with my faith promote a singular interruption on beliefs and worship. to me, faith is not religion, religion is set rules based on set interruptions of the rules.faith is hoping and believing in what is unseen. Some religions associated with my faith have different rules, such as how and when one can be baptized. Some will baptize you just because you want it, some will only do it if you meet a ( and others all) set stipulations, while others require you to meet a or all stipulations and take an oath to that church and it doctrine. thus i have no religion but a faith in the blood and love of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit of God. Also all of the religions have good reasons why they act the way they do, some people did not agree with another doctrine and thus a "differing" religion was formed.

I have a big problem with most organized religions because they exist for those in power (of that organization) to keep their power over others. None seem to represent the purer thought and intentions of the original religions, be it Christian, Jewish or Islam. Go back and study the foundations of each and the original prinicples and you'll be mighty apalled at how they have evolved.
Only the weak need someone to tell them how to be a good person. The rest of us are quite capable independent of that direction. Too many use "the church" as an excuse to do very mean, and sometimes very evil, things.

Organized religion is just a way of instituiting a certain number of men and women's personal preferences for socializing. One can keep effective communication with God inside and outside the church, with or without a group. A proponent of organized religion would protest that this violates the principle of fellowship. To that there is no reasonable response. Some people, like myself, simply don't fit in within the church social life.

Personally I despise organized religion, but don't deny others right to it.

It does seem to give some sort of cohesion in cultural groups. Is that a plus or a minus?

I agree with God, it shouldn't be organized because then it becomes man-made and useless.
