Sorry, I didn't make it clear. He is in a swimming team that has practice almost everyday. The pool is indoor. I guess it's cold due to A/C. However, other kids seem to be able to keep swimming to the end except him.

Start by giving him one minute under a cool shower! As he is standing there decrease the temperature until it is cold! He needs to slowly get used the cold! Do this every morning and he will be swimming in the cold pool before you know it!

if it's not an indoor pool or if you don't live in the tropics i wouldn't recommend it. water removes heat from the body 6 times faster than air and hypothermia can set in quickly, especially in small children who have less protection than adults.. that being said, if it is an indoor pool and the kid just wants to be in it, they will naturally adjust with time just make sure they have a shower to get their body used to cooler temps before they jump in and a moderately warm, not too much though, shower when they get out to help warm them back up.

Why don't you swim in a cold pool and figure it out? Bet you can't. I think that is cruel and why would you want a 6 year old to do that?
