there are no regulations, yet, requiring formal schooling or certificates..other than in some counties of California..You can talk to groomers in your area, and learn who will apprentice you.. You will likely begin as a dog washer and floor sweeper, and work in to the grooming end of the job as you gain experience..So, you actually get paid for being trained!

In the US you dont have to be certified to be a groomer but if you are like I was, you will feel more comfortable. I agree with a little of what everyone above said. I think the online courses are great when used in conjunction with hands on training. I took Thompson Online and just felt better going into training having learned basics from a book. As far as hands on training, alot of groomers do on the job training kind of like an apprenticship. I live in Jacksonville NC and the PetSmart here will hire washers (all they do are baths) if you do well as a washer, they will pay for your tuition to a grooming school in Raleigh NC to include your tools, lodging, and food. All you do is sign a two year contract with them saying you will only groom at PetSmart. I am not sure if this is something that they offer in other states but Im sure they do. Good luck!

Some states don't have grooming schools anymore. I learned to groom by going to a shop and did OJT. I have been a groomer for nearly 8 years now and my clients will follow me to the end of the world to keep me. I don't recommend doing a video course or online you need hands on training and alot of patience. I have been told there are a few school in California, Florida and New York for grooming but that is just hearsay. You can also see when they are having a grooming seminar in your area and go and see if they can help. Good Luck. It is alot of fun and a rewarding carree.

I would need to agree re the cat even though if in case you have the room for two dogs, and your baggage, I see no crisis taking them alongside, supplied you realize that no longer all lodges/ lodges will be given dogs. I might suggest if it's going to be sizzling while you travel, you have to have a/c onboard. And assuming too that the condo property will permit you to have the dogs in there! Personally when you consider that we had dogs all those years ago, our trips have simplest been for displaying, apart from once when we took 9 days off for a eu travel. And even then I nearly failed to go. I advocate you discover a excellent cattery in your cat, or perhaps have a sitter so much as for three months this is going to be luxurious!! It's true, cats are hooked up to where they reside, greater than their owners to be sincere and some thing could happen with a cat on a shuttle like that - he would even break out!

I'm not really sure what your question is but either way it sounds like you want to get into groomnig cats and dogs. I'd recommend buying some videos first. Take a look at PetEdge.com and see what kinds of videos they have that may interest you. Then, take a trip to a pet salon and see if that is really what you are interested in. Ask them if you can help out for a day and then go from there! Good luck!

I'm a vet tech now, but I used to be a groomer. Look in the phone book under groomers to start. Call around and ask. Some shops even do the training. I know Petsmart and Petco offer classes to new employees...good luck!

if it is just for your own pets look on the Internet or at books to find step by step guides, if you would like to do this as a job you need to find a college/uni course specializing in grooming or ask at a local grooming parlour for work experience/observation or less specialized job at a groomers where you would also get the opportunity to watch groomers at work and maybe try it out yourself.

Call some of your local vets or grooming parlors and ask them, some of them will train you while you work.
