It's my 2nd baby. My first was a breeze. He's 8 months old and today I'm sleep deprived and on edge. I can't leave the room w/out him crying. It just took over a hour to get him to nap. I wont give him any numbing gels for his mouth. It's just not my thing. I do give him Tylonal though. I just need other moms advice on how to deal a little bit better.

I found that the oral suspension acetaminophen worked last night, and he slept for 10 hours straight. Thank you for the great ideas guys. For the ones who told me to "get over myself" about oragel; ya ever swallow that stuff? Do you know how it makes you feel when you do? Well try that w/ a baby you idiot. My first baby choked on it and I wont do it w/ my 2nd. For the ones who said to shake, or a bong load, you are living proof that your mom dropped you on your head, repeatedly. Maybe to get you to stop crying while you were teething. You apparently have no children and have no business answering questions that which you know nothing about. I hope when you do have kids (God forbid) that they spend days screaming at you.

my son is 9 months old and i am going through this to... i give him tylonal and something cold to chew on.... a teething ring that was frozen to a cold wet wash cloth even a rubber key ring that works good to just make sure you take all the bad stuff off of it.... i agree with you not to use the numbing gels they can be very dangerous as far as choking goes....good luck to ya....

Try to ice a teething ring. Its too bad you won't try any gel, because it is only temporary and will help him for a little bit.
If by any chance he uses a pacifier, you can freeze that..or use one of the fillable ones and freeze it. Try ice pops during the day.
Basically you really need to numb his gums up a bit and give him something to chew on. Tylenol only does so much, and actually too much tylenol can cause liver problems. Its not meant to be given continuously, as I'm sure you know. The gels are actually safer (when used correctly). Until you manage to get him to stop hurting so much, you aren't going to get the sleep you are wanting. He's in pain, its just a bear through it kind of thing, bad or not.
Good luck.

I will say that the Orajel was the first thing I was going to recommend, it worked like a charm for both of my babies and is harmless. Tylenol would have been my second suggestion and my third would be one of those teething toys that can be tossed in the fridge. My boys enjoyed the coolness and also enjoyed chewing on a cool wash cloth. They have teething biscuits too that are great, messy and must be taken away once small.... but tasty and soothing. I feel for ya mamma, I hope things get better, this is a short phase and will be over soon, good luck.

I'm going through the same thing with my almost 5 month old son. What I do is give him some Hylands Teething Tablets and some Tylonel during the day. At night I only give him the Tylonel. I also play relaxing music sometimes to help calm everyone down.

Try the numbing gel. Have you had a tooth ache before? It will help. He is very tiny still and in pain. Tylenol will work a little but the gel will help with the relaxing also. At Walgreen they have "teething Tablets" they dissolve in his mouth and are made to help the little ones get through the pain.

You're not gonna like this but I suggest the numbing gel. Obviously nothing else is working so why not give it a try? It might not be "your thing" but it might be his. Imagine if you were him---you'd try anything to relieve it wouldn't you? Just keep trying things until you find things that work. Frozen teething rings can also numb his mouth as well.

Frozen teething rings or let him chew on a frozen waffle. This may sound a little wierd but there are good dog toys for this, as long as you don't have a dog and you buy them new they are fine. They go in the freezer and have a canvas cover. Some babies like it better than the smooth plastic of the teething rings.

i did not like giving my child baby orajal either, what i ended up doing was taking a piece of sugar free gum, such as double-mint gum. and soaking it in a small glass of warm water, then dropping her passy or teething rings in the water. They like the taste because it is different, and for my daughter it seemed to get her to focus on the interesting taste rather than the pain, she was more inclined to take a teething ring after that, you can also use a cold washcloth with the same thing, something with a little bit of taste.... hope it works!

Hylands Teething Tablets are a life saver and as for not giving him numbing gels, the tylenol isnt any better except for it will keep him from getting a fever. a cool wash rags helps, They also have vibrating teething rings that I dont know what I would have done without while my daughter was teething badly.

i gave( and still give) my daughter the infants tylenol.. i know you said you do this. i heard the numbing gel just washes away with the baby's saliva-- i dont use that stuff either.
have you tried teething rings( not the ones with the gel in them)? they helped a lot.or, you could try freezing a wash cloth and have your son chew on it.
luckilly for me, she hardly ever stayed up all night with her teeth, just constant ear infections which im sure as you know are no fun either.
good luck and sorry i dont have other suggestions
