The only place to live in Vancouver is Commercial Drive. It is interesting, bohemian, multi-cultural, lively and close to downtown and skytrain.

If you're a snobby person, pick the West End downtown, where the shopping is great and everyone is as plastic as a barbie doll! English Bay is the local wannabe-California waterfront scene. I would only reccommend this dowtown neighbourhood if you were a fabulously fun gay guy.

Main Street is supposed to be getting interesting, with lots of cool second hand shops. And a lot of antique shops and funky cafes.

If you are a professional lesbian artist, our "Artist Quarter" is Strathcona. Also a very old neighbourhood, oozing with character and beautiful funky homes and gardens. It is small, tucked away near Chinatown, and very close to the worst part of town (the Downtown Eastside), but very cool. There are no major shopping centres nearby and the traffic is a bit odd because the train tracks sometimes cause traffic to stop. This neighbourhood is great if you bike everywhere, a bike route goes through it.

Kitsilano has a venerable hippie history, and lingering traces of that in organic shops and yoga centres, but it has basically become very middle class and boring. Close to the nicest beaches though, and close to the university (UBC).

All other neighbourhoods are nondescript...but if you like a quiet, boring place go for those.

All areas of Vancouver have unreasonable rent, and this will get even worse as the Olympics approaches. This is why many people live in Greater Vancouver, in the suburbs surrounding, instead (Richmond, Delta, Langley). Traffic is pretty bad if you have to commute. But Surrey, New Westminster, and Burnaby have access to the Skytrain system, so you have that option instead of a car if you live in those places.

Please come live here! This is the BEST city ever and I love it so much! It is GREAT for gardening (my obsession)...

Sorry low fee and coastline do not frequently go at the same time. My daughter merely talked about a studio condominium(no bedroom) close to to the coastline and Stanley park for $1050 insanely extreme priced A one bedroom condominium about 20 minutes from the coastline will run round $1000 or better. you could share a house with others and performance only a room for style of $450 similar distance to coastline

Well, do remember that the Canadian Dollar is even weaker than the US one, so your money will go farther.. I've heard that British columbia is beautiful but unfortunately, don't know much about Vancouver.

I've always wanted to emigrate to Banff, it's absolutely gorgeous. I've been all round the world but I've never been to a better place than Banff. You'll have to go to see what I mean.
