There are a couple of camp sites. The one down by the Puffin diving school is to be recommended. Don't go to the one at the North end as it is dead snobbish nd they don't allow tents. There is also a good one at Crianlarich, which is about half hour drive east of Oban. It has "Wig-Wams" which are about £7.50 a night and are quite comfy. Failing all that, there are loads of B & Bs - at this time of year you can pretty much take your pick. While you're in Oban eat fish and chips from the chip shop opposite Ottakars and take a boat trip to Balamorie (kids or childish adults will love it). Don't bother walking up to the fort as it's not really worth the hike.

Oban Youth Hostel - assuming you don't mind sharing a dormitory room (4-8 bed rooms). It's a short walk from the harbour with great views across the bay.

£13-15 per person
