Chicken itself is just fine but only in moderation... A strict diet isn't good... If you want you can use majority chicken but really need to add variety for full-range of nutrients... Also. keep the bones away as chicken bones tend to splinter instead of break and cause choking, stomach, and intestine problems (very sharp!)... Peace!

A strict diet of Chicken only would be dangerous to any dog. Dogs are omnivores by nature, not carnivores. This means that they need a diet that consists of not just protein, but carbohydrates and other nutrients as well. This can be vegetables, rice, oatmeal, fruits, molasses etc. The chicken itself will not cause harm as long as it's:

1. Fresh
2. Raw or
3. Cooked, but boneless

But, chicken will not supply what the dog needs alone.

Feeding a dog only chicken could eventually lead to malnutrition or a deficiency of some sort and this could kill your dog or cause some serious ailments (warped bones, blindness, etc).

If you are considering altering your dog's diet, you need to speak with your veterinarian. There are whole food and raw food diets that you can use with dogs, but they take an understanding of nutrition and a specific plan must be followed. To protect your dog's health, do not change your dog's diet to people food, or anything other than high quality dog food, without first consulting your vet.

I would not give ONLY chicken to any dog. NEVER GIVE CHICKEN BONES TO A DOG .they are brittle and can puncture their stomach and intestines. Very painful and deadly.

Dogs need more nutrients than only chicken. Stay with a consistent diet of only crunchy dog food. Follow feeding instructions on bag and feed same time, same amount ,same place, every day. Pick a dog food that is high in protein. Also the first ingredient should be a chicken, beef, salmon or lamb. A dog food with the first ingredient of chicken is easier for a dog to digest.

As in all ingredient labels the fist ingredient is the most important because the food product will contain the most of the first ingredient. I like purina foods that have chicken as their #1 ingredient. Check the ingredient label before you buy any dog food and compare the nutrients. It is always on the side or the back of the bag.

I do not buy Iams because it is expensive and is not that much better than anyother dog food with the same ingredients.

Just the meat (no bones) for a week or so to help a dog lose weight is fine, but over the long haul, they need more balance to their diet including vegetables, fat (chicken is mightly lean) an possibly some grains (I'm not convinced they need grains as dogs don't eat them at all in the wild..grains just fill up a dog for less money..same as people).

You can mix the meat with cooked oatmeal or rice if your reasoning is to help a sensitive stomach. Also cooked eggs or egg yolk. Raw whites are not good for dogs.

Chicken is not dangerous to small dogs. However, the chicken bones itself most definitely are. What kind of dog is it that you are asking for? If you're planning on giving your dog any meat, regardless of it being chicken or otherwise, please make sure it is cooked BEFORE you give it to the animal. I have seen so many people that give their dogs raw meat and the problems that it can cause to their digestive systems is terrible. It's not always the case, but since dogs have become so domesticated, it's always better to cook the meat before you give it to the animal. Most standard pet food formulas come with lamb and rice, chicken and rice, or beef with either rice or vegetables. Whichever you choose would be good for your animal. Good luck!

Chicken is very bad for any dog as the bones might get stuck and they could die, expecially if you can't make it to the vets in time. I have a dog that is very allergic to Chicken it gives her sezures, which is not good for her.

i agree with mirium, chicken is good for dogs as long as it is cooked and boneless but it cannot make up a full diet, you need to mix it with other stuff such as rice, pasta, veg or complete dry/moist dog foods. try looking on the internet for guides to making your dog food yourself if thats what you want to do or just stick to complete dog food (you can get normal, organic, science plan, mineral, puppy, vetran etc) and add bits of chicken to supplement or as treats. hope this helps xx

Dogs need protein in their diet. Lots of it. If you' re going to feed your dog homemade food then, you need to find some recipes for homemade dog food. Besides meat the recipes can have cottage cheese, tofu, brown rice, vegetables and beans. I bet you can find some on the Internet easy. The dog food manufactures put horrible things in our dogs dog food. They use feces, animals that have died from cancer, feathers, hair, rancid fats. It is gross. If you do not want to continue cooking for your little one be sure and buy her the expensive dog foods. Iams, science diet.
