Dreadlocks are very nice looking on some people but more work than most realize. It is very hard to keep hair that is essentially knotted together clean. Not only that but when you do wash them they take forever to dry. The weight can be very harsh on your scalp. Your scalp as well can get very dry and flakey depending on how long your dreads are. Have you considered twisting your hair. I have a friend who gels her hair while wet. Sections little pieces off and twists REALLY tight. Secures with pins and sleeps on. The next morning she takes them down and the twist remains... they are cute like dreads but not such a commitment. Like others above me stated, once you have dreads, you have to essentially shave your head to get rid of them. Really research before you commit.

I think if you don't have the hair type for dreads, then don't get them because it will just look plain weird. But dreadlocks aren't nasty at all, there is a thing called...*cough* shampoo. Lots of people who don't have dreadlocks don't wash their hair and it looks nasty, so there (to all those dread haters).

Go for cornrows or something, only some people can pull them off, most of the time people suck at trying to get them and it looks like crap, im not saying that all dreadlocks are gross, but sometimes itcan look pretty cool, google pictures or something, its a big step to take, and U DONT HAVE TO SHAVE IT OFF TO GET RID OF THEM!!!! I watched a Show called what not to wear on tlc and this girl gets a complete makeover and she had gross dreadsw, and all the person did was untangle it, it took forever, but she had like three people untangling it at the same time so . watever

As a stylist I try to answer this question tactfully.
Starting them is kinda difficult, it requires adding product and just rubbing them into knots. The part that most folks don't think about is the smell. This happens due to the fact that you mush the hair into a ratty mess then after they get wet it takes a long time to dry never actually drying in the middle. So they often smell badly, think about if you get sweaty and then can't really rinse the odor out. Also after you want to be done with them they have to be cut off not combed out. If you want to comb them out you are looking at taking hours and hours. So make your decision wisely grasshopper. Good luck.
