Try going to "my computer", on your monitor and open. Then open "Drive C" = Open Properties. Open tools and check off scan files for error. You will get a popup saying that the pc has to be shutdown to check files for errors, Check off okay and shut down your pc. Start your pc back up and you will see a black monitor with showing a complete scan of all files in your system. If there is an error it will correct automatic. If no error then your system will load all the program you have.

If this does not work, you should run your antivirus system, and reboot if trojans or other malware are found.

I run Windows XP Prof., and sometimes my icons on my monitor will vanish. I just go to start and programs, look for the file and open and place a shortcut back onto the monitor. In your case all your programs seem to have vanished.

If you want the program icons to show up *immediately* when you click 'start':

>Find the shortcuts in your 'programs' list
>Right-click them and click 'pin to start menu'
