9000 steps for me takes around 1 hour 40 minutes, and thats how much I walk too and from work twice a day.
Saturday mornings I walk into town and thats about 9000 steps, I get the bus home.
I'm not losing any weight, but that's because I have a bar of chocolate every day. (Thats the reward for 9000 steps).

Not sure. My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.
On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.
The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!
Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.
Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.
Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

Depends how wide the steps are. To walk that many in a day as I assume you are talking about the 10,000 for Health with a pedometer. Its about 5m if you take long steps, 3m if you take short ones

A normal human stride is about a yard, which would mean that 10000 steps is about 6 miles. You're a bit shorter than average, so figure 5 miles or so.

a person, on average, travels ~2.5-3 ft per step, so 10,000 steps is roughly 25,000-30,000 ft, which is around 5 miles
a whole lotta walking to do for our health, isn't it?
and the average person only walks about 1/2 that on any given day

well depends how long your steps are... if your trying to do 10 000 a day then to begin it takes a while to get into the swing of things - the average adult only walks around 3000 a day, but then loadsa people sit around all day so... - when I started I found it quite hard, I was averaging around 7500 'cause I walk round my college and to and the bus and so on, but if you just raise it gradually then you'll find it quite easy and fun after a while. and if you really want to raise your step count, go shopping!

If you have been using one of these freebie pedometers you will have to walk, say 10 normal steps and then measure how far you went, then you can do a simple sum to work out how far you went.

according to the box my pedometer came in, 2500 steps is approximately one mile. so 10,000 is about 4 miles give or take 100 yards. that's how many steps you are recommended to take each day to maintain your health. (at least without real exercise)
