Anything with caffeine will work, including colas and black tea. But those are all quick fix. The folks who are advising you on a certain lifestyle are closer to the long-term mark.

Experiment to see what the optimal amount of sleep is for you. Let's say it's 8 hours. Once you've determined the optimal, more that than can be as bad as less! Then be sure you get that amount.

Schedule an extra 15 minutes in the morning before your shower to do a quick walk or an exercise video or even just some old-fashioned calisthenics (jumping jacks, toe touches, stretches, situps, etc.)

Eat a breakfast with a complex carbohydrate, a simple sugar, and a protein. For instance, a whole-grain cereal with fruit and milk. Or granola with vanilla yogurt and a full serving of fruit. Sugar in this case does NOT mean refined! =)

Take your shower 5 degrees cooler than usual. Very invigorating!

Limit the caffeine, sugar and simple carbohydrates during the day. As mentioned by others, these can cause "crash" effects afterwards. Eat a lunch with a complex carbohydrate and protein, like whole-grain bread and fat-free turkey. Watch out for chips and fries, especially.

If your job allows it, get up and walk around, making sure to stretch well and touch your toes a couple times once an hour or so. A brisk two-minute walk to the fax machine, the photocopier, the mail room, whatever, will perk you back up.

Eat a sensible dinner. Avoid more than one or two alcoholic beverages. If you can't get up early enough in the mornings to do your WHOLE exercise routine, do it at night. Organize everything the night before so mornings run smoothly and don't stress you out.

In addition to these weekday strategies, it's generally a good idea to try and keep to the same hours on weekends, getting up and going to bed close to the same time. Having different hours on weekends makes it difficult for your body to adjust to a schedule... and bodies like schedules.

Good luck! =)

I don't know if this will answer your question, you wanted food or herbs but the best answer I can offer is coffee.Freshly brewed, percolator coffee is better than instant but instant is still better than tea. All these drinks contain caffeine as a natural ingredient. caffeine is also present in chocolate [both eating and drinking] and is added to some cola drink Do not however recommend the use of chocolate or full sugar soft drinks as they are loaded with sugar and calories and will soon show on the scales. Coffee will not do this provided you do not add cream or sugar.Drink either black or with a small amount of skimmed milk.

Caffeine is a quick fit. However when it wears off you're really tired. A better solution is to eat protein for breakfast. Keep boiled eggs in the fridge , they are easy to eat on the way to work. Keep a protein bar at hand for your break. Avoid sugar.Drink plenty of water. When you hit a low spot in your energy breathe very, very deep several times. Get oxygen into your body and move around.

Maybe Candy, sweets or something that will shock you when you feel sleepy. Poping your self with a rubber band around your wrist. It's just an idea or two

There is nothing worse then trying to stay up and your eyes feel really heavy. There is one sure fire way that rids that and its pretty easy. All you have to do is go into your bathroom and get a washclothe and douse it with cold water, then dab it on your face and its a garentee youll be concious for another 30-45 min.

Orange juice, and a good breakfast, no refined sugars because when the up wears off there is a down, and caffeine for alot of people has the same effect, once it wears off you get tired. best of all is a good nights sleep before you wake up.

I guess they say that staying in shape on a regular basis will allow you to be more "in tune". I often stretch when I am tired (arms and legs) it helps some-what... as the other answer(s) say: a good nights sleep.
I heard also that food grown with "raped and slaughtered" manures will slow you down, I do not know it this is true or not, but it seems logical.
