hello BOSCO,
Ear pain could be cuz of various reasons:
1. Infection
2. Swimmer's ear: An infection in the skin of the ear canal, similar to an infection anywhere else on the skin such as from a scrape or a bite. It is different from an ear infection, which occurs in the middle ear space behind the eardrum. Swimmer’s ear infection occurs external to the ear drum in the ear canal.
3. Common cold (no infection)
4. Referred pain from another source (sore throat)
If you wanna get thru the night without having to go to the doc, you can warm olive oil, vegetable oil, or garlic oil – put several drops of one of these into the ear (Make sure the oil isn't too hot)
However, if you see any liquid or pus draining out of the ear, DO NOT PUT ANY OF THE ABOVE DROPS INTO THE EAR.
Or
Warm compress – apply a warm washcloth to the ear.
Or
Acetaminophen or ibuprofen are effective pain relievers for ear pain.
If the above doesn't help, seek medical attention soon.
The above methods are used on kids. You haven't mentioned ur age-group....so not sure.
Hope you get well soon.
-Steff

Old home remedy for ear pain that's sooths the ear canal and is safe is dropping a few drops of what my mom calls sweet oil in the ear. What sweet oil it is Pure olive oil. You warm is up Little and it feel soooo good! I used it on my kids all the time. The hair dryer thing also feels good. But the oil...oh wow! Be sure to warm it. It is very harmless and effective. If the pain continues you could have a infection, but sometimes the water from washing the ear out can cause pain and irritation. Try the warm oil, you will be surprised how good it feels.

I would seriously consider the ER, but try a warm compress for a while. There could have been an area of infection that the wax removal exposed, and is now causing you pain. I have even heard of using a blow dryer, set on low! The warmth may ease the pain but will not cure an infection. See a doctor.
Take care.

I don't want to scare you but pain is an indication that something is wrong. You could have punctured or damaged something. Don't take the risk of waiting. Get to a doctor immediately before there is any further damage or an infection sets in. You may spend needlessly on a doctor appointment but wouldn't it be worth it to save your hearing? Good luck!

go to the doctor. If it is an inner ear infection you will need atibotics to get rid of it, not drops in the ear.
