when you catch it in the act of using the restroom in your home, as soon as they have finished grab then and put their face in it ( not literally. about an inch away) and tell them no. so they know what they have done wrong and stick them somewhere they do not like to stay. (if they like to be inside or like to be with you, stick them outside. if they have a buddy that is outside then find away to keep them separated or the second lest favorite of their places.) also if you see them sniffing or letting out gas then they are probably about to use the restroom. you go to the door and call them and take them outside. when they have finished doing it's business and has returned to you, hand them a treat and some loving attention. another tip if you give them more attention by loving on them the less likely they will badly behave to get attention with your anger.

Don't punish her! If you spank, spray, and stuff, she will think going potty is bad, and she will hide and do it where you won't see it.
Crate train her. Or use a baby gate to confine her to an easy to clean area like bathroom or kitchen when you can't watch her.
Watch for signs of needing to go potty, such as circling, sniffing, sudden change in behavior during play, and take her out immediately! If she starts to urinate, pick her up calmly and put her outside.
Feed her on a schedule so her bowel movements will be scheduled. Her bladder is small, being such a small dog, so she will need to go more frequently.
Paper training is NOT a good idea, EVER!!!!!!! That teaches the dog that it is okay to use the bathroom in the house....not good.
Taker her out on a leash to the same place every time and praise like crazy when she goes potty outdoors!!!!!
You can email me for some more help, if you need it!

Spanking a dog does not do the least bit of good. They do not understand why you are hitting them, they will just become cowardly and timid. It is hard to stop an adult dog from going in the house. Teaching dogs to use potty paper or whatever inside the house is not good, just teaches them it is OK to go in the house. One thing you can do is crate the dog. Get a crate that is just large enough to turn around and lay down, not large enough to eliminate at one end and lay at the other. A dog will not go where they have to sit and lay. Keep her in the crate when you are out of the house, or when you are too busy to pay attention to her. Take her out of the crate frequently and take her out. Always take her out 30 to 45 minutes after she eats. Praise her when she goes outside. Don't leave her in there all the time. When she has gone outside keep her out, play with her. Watch her. When she indicates she may be looking for a place to go, take her out again. This is not cruel, hitting her for something she does not understand is cruel, or getting rid of her because you can't stand it any more is cruel. Many dogs get to like their crates, dogs are den creatures by nature, and they do not foul their dens. Hopefully after enough time, she can be out of the crate when you are home and awake, but keep using it when you are gone, and if need be when you are sleeping. This is truly a difficult thing, much easier with a puppy. Good luck.

I have a Shih-tzu male dog and I potty trained him in about a week. What you do is this: whenever they pee in the house rub their noses in it and sternly say "No! Outside!" and take them outside. Whenever they actually DO pee outside, make sure to praise them and give treats. Make a big deal of how pleased you are when they pee outside. Eventually they will learn that peeing inside doesnt make you happy and they will get scolded.
Hope this works for ya...

The best thing is constancy (if I spelled that correctly). And crate training is by far the best thing you can do. Normally when you buy a puppy they tell you to take him/her out after they eat, play or wake up from a nap. When you are gone you crate them to keep them from doing whatever they please. Also, you can crate them when they are bad. My next door neighbor has a 5yr, 4yr and 8 month old rotties, all of them are crated from time to time due to behaviour issues. But you need to keep on it, no matter what, and no resorting to violence only makes the animal more scared of you and will probably start submissive urination if continued and that never is cured.
