MY professor asked us to write two paragraphs in spanish about anything about the future. Is it cheating if I just type in english what I want to say in to AlatVista, and then click the translate button to spanish?
Is this okay, morally I mean? Are should I do it legit, bringing out my textbooks and spanish to english dictonary?

My Opinion is no the technology is at fault its like putting candy in front of a baby and telling them not to touch, what do you think will happen?

Don't chastise yourself the usefulness of the tool. Think of something you might LIKE to say about the future in Spanish. Type in SOME of the words that come to your mind in English into the translator. Whatever ones you are most interested in. Then turn to your textbooks. Try to pick up some understanding of how the verbs and grammar work. Then just write it in a way that sounds right to YOU.
Language is an art. What comes out of a "mechanistic" translator will often be something that Spanish speaking people will laugh at. What is immoral is to take a teachers time and not care about the subject. Using tools available to you is not immoral. Not unless your crowd is silly on its morals.
(If you don't believe me- try typing something in English, have it translated. Then type the translation back into it and have it translated back to English. Try it a few times just for fun.)
Again. Language is an art.

Haha you just got yourself in trouble either way. Morally I guess it would depend on your own moral standpoint since its a curve that differs for everyones justification.
One thing for sure is that you are going to get a horrible grade on the assignment coz babelfish translates it really really bad with no grammer that actually makes sense!
You were better off writing it in here and having someone translate it for you real quick!

Think it through.
What is the purpose of the task? To help you learn Spanish.
Will using AltaVista help you learn Spanish? No.
Will it help you learn Spanish to take out your textbooks and dictionary and compose it yourself? Yes.

I say it is unethical. The point is to practice the spanish, not to educate her on your opinion of the future no matter what. Plus altavista will make mistakes, and the teacher might be able to peg you on that.

Of course is cheating, you are supposed to learn by doing your homework... your teacher will find out you cheated, trust me. Those translations are terrible sometimes

it is cheating but its a good idea in principal. ive never thought of that. i wish u posted this q 2 yrs ago when i was doing french and had loads of stuff to write

Somewhat, akin to the primary school child, using the electronic calculator for his Arithmetic, instead of doing it manually!

haha it'll turn out such a horrible translation your teach will know it was a babelfish translation, or that you are just terrible at Spanish.
