What's the solution for the Mid-East?

I say develope new energy and get out of there. They 're just to volital over there. And let's face it were dying to protect U.S. oil assets over there and can't be cost effective forever paying daily for our armies there (and now they want 60,000 more men!)

It's not about obtaining their oil. North America could run completly on solar and wind energy, but the Middle East would find a market for their oil, obtain lot's of cash, develop weapons and do some serious damage to America.

If a country in Africa gets a rally of a few thousand people together shouting 'death to America' it's no big deal, because you can't buy guns (or tickets on a 747) with sand. If you get together a few thousands of people shouting 'death to America' who are sitting on resources to buy weapons, you take notice.

The Soviet Union was pretty scary too until it's economy collapsed.

Are you asking what is the solution to the Mid-East or the solution to the US leaving and for good?

There hasn't been a solution to the mid-east for 3000 year and there won't be one for at least the next 500 years. There isn't any incentive for the discontinuation of national, religious, class, tribal and family conflict and warfare. And the USA isn't going to solve the problems there, period.

Yes, let's develop new energy sources and get out. Again, not going to happen in my lifetime. What's the incentive for the average American to give up their cars & SUVs to walk, bike or take the virtually non-existant mass transit.

I'm with you man! We need to pack up and get out of that area. I'm not sure we are doing any good now, or if we ever really were. If we give in to those bandits over there, they will take over the country and there is no telling what oil prices will be, or if we will even get oil from them. We either need to just level the country or get out, because what we are doing is putting a band-aid on a cut juggler vein. All we are doing is slowing down the time frame of the outcome. I don't think we are getting any oil from Iraq at all, are we? If we aren't, then we really need to leave!
