Simply turn on the tv or go to any restaurant or fast food place and you will see why the obesity levels are rising in America. Everything is super-sized, filled with fat and preservatives, and loaded with calories. Most portions at these places are enough to feed 2 or 3 people. Things aren't much better in the American households either. Do to all the advertising for junk and convience foods, we spend our money on these things instead of preparing healthy meals that might take more time to make. Another cause is our fast-paced way of life. Americans are trying to juggle so many things like work, family, extra curricular activities that we fail to take care of ourselves. We are too tired to exercise and too stressed to eat right.. This creates chaos with our bodies. They crave junk food when we are stressed. The more stressed and tired we are, the more junk we consume. The more junk we eat, the more stress and fatigue we have. It is a vicious cycle.
There is some hope. Schools are starting to limit junk food on their campuses and restaurants are offering healthier choices. We as consumers need to demand more and we as people just need to take the time to take better care of ourselves, not just for our sake but for the sake of our children as well.

Obesity is rising in the US (and Canada) and now other parts of the world that are eating a 'Westernized' diet. It is a diet that is high in processed, high fat or high sugar foods. We live in a busy society and convenience foods are the choice of many. Plus I visted the states a couple of years ago and was flabergasted at the size of the portions. Kids are being raised on these foods and not motivated to exercise and are more sedentary. It is a society of abundance (even where there isn't abundance the bad for your foods are way less expensive to buy than the good for you foods) that also turns to food for emotional comfort that we may not be getting in the fast paced world. It's scary.

The populations of societies have possibly always been 60% overweight and 30% obese. Even thought this isn't portrayed in any media.

Because so many unhealthy fast-food merchants like McDonalds don't care about America. They care about money. They really aren't making it easy to make healthy eating choices.

Portion sizes are HUGE.
TV causes laziness and eliminates activity
My personal belief is that chemical additives to our food doesn't help at all.

Cuz you Americans are fat pigs and eat anything and everything you can get your hands on. Then you sit your fat asses infront of the tv all day. Portion sizes are getting bigger, and therefore, so are your asses.
