Unless you were flying out of Great Britain, where they had restricted ALL carry-on baggage, Laptop Computers were never prohibited. If you are flying in the United States, you are now allowed to take travel sized liquid items 3oz or less, provided they fit into a quart-sized ziploc bag. All other liquids are still prohibited.
By the way, if you take your laptop, make sure you take it out of the case and submit it seperately for the X-Ray. That will probably save you some time when you go through security.
Oh, and Karla's right, DON'T CALL THE AIRLINES. I can't count how many times I've had to tell passengers that their pool cues and golf clubs can't go on the plane and they give me the excuse "The airline told me I could take it." If you have any doubts, go to www.tsa.gov.

Well the other TSA Officer answered the question, I just want to add this little bit of information, STOP calling the airlines to see what can and can't be taken, I know the airlines have given wrong information to passengers, I've been standing right behind one and had to stop the passenger and give him the correct info, you want to know what can and can't be taken through security go to www.tsa.gov

I am not aware that the TSA had stopped letting passengers take their laptops onboard. Your best bet is to call the airline you are flying on and ask them.
