The military people have a right to tell you to shut up, just as you have the right to say what you want, and to tell THEM to shut up.
When the Republican party or the actual government says this, however, we're on dangerous grounds. And they HAVE equated free speech with anti-American activities and even treason. So far, no prosecutions have happened and no special legislation has been enacted. But if the Democrats don't take the House or Senate or both, I predict that these restrictions WILL be enacted.

I'm going to venture a guess here: I'm betting people are telling you to shut up because you're not saying anything constructive. All you do is engage in juvenile name-calling and spewing the same old tired liberal mantra we've all heard at least a thousand times before. You sit there with such blatant arrogance declaring that YOU ARE RIGHT and anyone who doesn't agree with you is an idiot. Perfect example of liberal hypocrisy in action. Do as I say, not as I do. P.S.: We have no worries about you doing what you can to save this country, even though we know your vision for our great nation is the next Soviet Union, because it's a well-known fact that the only thing liberals are good at doing is b!tching, whining, griping, moaning, and complaining. You don't get anything done because you don't know the first thing about sustaining a country or defending a nation. So I'll take your advice about being a part of the solution instead of being part of the problem by saying SHUT YOUR IGNORANT TRAP!!!

PERMANENT WAR
First of all, the military people and anyone else who chooses to do so have every right to tell you to "Shut Up" That is a constitutionally protected freedom we enjoy as Americans. I do support the troops and admire that they are willing to sacrifice their lives for what they believe is right. They are true heroes however we feel about this war. However;
I think that traditionally military people will support their "Commander in Chief" regardless of whether they personally believe he is right or wrong. In addition to this, no soldier wants to believe they may have to give the only thing they really have, the only thing they will ever have, for nothing. No soldier wants to acknowledge he or she may die for Nothing. A life is a terrible thing to Waste, especially if it's your own.
I do believe the country has started to wake up and realize that their Great Leader is not infallible. Public support for the war has dropped considerably in the past year, with 59% now opposing it.
In the meantime, W's ratings have SKYROCKETED all the way to 37-43%; only 14-20 points below Bill Clintons' WORST recorded rating of 57%. In other words, a lot of people are not in favor of this war without end, or of our dear Big Brother, who IS NOT love. I sometimes use Orwellien references to describe Mr. Bush because their are many similarities between this administration and "1984".
As for W's place in history, if nothing else he will go down as the President who made the world a safer place. (for Al Quada). His own Intelligence estimate released on 9/24/06 states that the war in Iraq has helped to fuel anti American sentiment around the globe and increase the threat of terrorism. It has also been a wonderful recruiting poster for Al Quada, which is much larger in terms of members and locations, and more of a threat than before 9/11.
Big Brother is Not Love!

Show some god damned pride for once in your life.

Because you are a crying, whining, wimp? Yep, thats about it. You said and I quote. "One of the reasons we live here is the RIGHT to dissent....to criticize our government". We are the government. We didn't send us overseas. For you to criticize the military for the faults you seen in the White House puts you right up there with the folks from the Whiteboro Baptist Church. Yep, its all some 18 year old privates fault. You slam the military because we are the easiest target. Which proves you to be lazy. Taking potshots at people who can't fire back puts you right up there with the Taliban and Al-Queda in most of us Military types. That would be cowardly. Admit it you are a lazy wimp and coward. OH and I forgot legend in your own mind.

Erudite.....if I understand you right, you left the Air Force and then tried the Navy. That means you have 2 discharges vice one listed. Based on some basic facts, I must assume that one discharge, your last one, was OTH. My reason for this assumption is the fact that you are umemployed. Based on the times of your questions, you have nothing else to do than sit at your computer except for a few hours in the middle of the night. I can help you find a job if you'd like. I'm a Navy Recruiter!! :-)

Erudite, have every right to criticize the government. The problem I have with your questions it that you seem to have forgotten to support the troops, you sound like the sort of person who stood around airports spitting at returning soldiers and yelling "baby killer" I don't understand why you are so down on the institution of the military but your questions are not helpful and serve simply to make people angry not to make them think or to educate yourself(the supposed purpose of this forum).

The reason why Rome fell is beacuse of decadence (the people did not want to fight & wanted to live a high life) & she wasn't a republic when she fell. WW2 Germany fell beacuse of incompetence - by the way, she wasn't a republic then.
The reason why many American troops suffer is beacuse of clowns like you.
It's bad enough they have to fight wars & die on foreign soil. It's even worse that they died protecting people who not only shun the military but spit on them.

Sorry but I have to weigh in on this one...at least to clarify one part of your most recent effort at antagonizing people.
You state that Rome and Germany were republics too and went the way of fascism. Please tell me you haven't made the fatal mistake of the ill-educated and politically non-astute and believe that republic is the same as Republican and the democracy is the same as Democrat.
Unbelievably this misconception is not uncommon.
Continue with your antagonizing....

My husband is currently in Iraq fighting for your right to freedom of speech. You need to realize that there are people who are doing what needs to be done to ensure that you can sit at your computer and act like my two year old daughter when she wants a cookie before dinner. People like you make me sick. If you don't like the way our country is run, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!! My husband is risking his life in Baghdad as we speak to give you the opportunity to be more than what you are. Take advantage of the gift that he and other Marines/Sailors/Soldiers have given you, you spoiled little brat!
