My daughter is almost 13 and although she isn't always very reliable I plan to ask her to help with her 2 year old brother more often in the afternoons. I plan to compendate her for this but not necessarily with money. Any ideas for rewards for her help (if money, how much would you pay?)?

I'm thinking - watch him while I shower or cook dinner. get some laundry and other housework done. I usually do these things during his naps but recently his naps have been getting shorter and sometimes not taking them at all. Dad helps when he gets home but then we eat dinner and pack the kids to bed and I really don't want to be ironing or vaccuuming at 9:00 pm.
Having her watch him would be like - she could play with playdough with him or let him sit with her while she plays computer games (something she likes to do with him anyway).
I'm starting to think that just watching him will be enough of a reward - LOL!

depends on what you are asking of her and for how long. She isnt an employee, she is your daughter and in family, you have certain responsibilities that arise, for her this is one of them. compensate if you wish, but It shouldnt be the focal point of her helping you but rather just something extra to go with the fact that she is doing the family a duty and you feel that at her age he is responsible enough to handle it. Just being told that you are trusted to take on certain tasks can give a young one a very good feeling indeed.

I think I would tell her that if she shows good responsibility that I would give her $4 an hour to watch her brother as long as she is mature about it and no fighting no messes.
If she is doing a good job then tell her so. Make her feel good and tell her what she is doing good.
Positive reinforcement goes a long way.

Ask her what she'd like to work towards! Maybe she wants you to throw her a party, or take her to her first concert. Maybe she'll want her first tattoo (just kidding)!
